So i just played thru the quest "Corrupted Betrayal" and i was left a little confused. Slykaar is repeatedly refered to as a shaman who uses magic, however most of what he doesin this quest involves mixing DNA and mutating it to create new beings. He also has some pretty heavy machinery lying around his base.

DNA though? Really? That's awfully modern condsidering Wynncraft is set in a medieval world (i know Corkus is a thing but we are in Wynn, in Troms to be more specific. That's really far away from Corkus).

I get that Slykaar has been a shaman since day one, and that it would be a hassle to change the entire backstory he had before the update, but this quest felt like it was made to have a mad scientist as the antagonist, but Slykaar, a shaman, was put in it instead with no afterthought.

What i'm proposing is that either Corrupted Betrayal is changed to fit Slykaar, or that he and is dungeon is changed to fit Corrupted Betrayal more (i prefer the first option)
Does anybody feel the same way, or am i alone here?

In the quest, it's mentioned that a shaman uses life energy to cast their magic. Maybe Slykaar figured out how to use his magic to extract dna from these creatures?

My guess is that they wanted to have some explanation for his magic, but instead of using spells or something else, they used science jargon.

Yeah i guess that makes sense, but that begs the question, is magic even real in wynncraft, or is it all science and logic based? or are they one and the same? or maybe i'm just pulling a matpat on you all by overanalyzing this too much. idrk

MatPat yes, but Wynncraft just uses magic or science just to move the quest along.

mhm... this is indeed kinda weird after you mention it
Normally, we didnt really notice this type of small details, but you do point out a really good point tbh
Wynncraft set-up is base on magic and medieval land, concluding DNA and mutation are kinda weird and awkward afterall...
I mean, you do mention that we have corkus, yeah corkus is sort of a science related place... but still..
I understand troms are originally settled down by humans.. but its still kinda huge different from corkus
The Wynn province is a very old province, the first province humans settled in. Ragni and Troms were the strongest holds humans built, with Ancient Nemract functioning as the province's main port.
Its before villagers arrived.. so at least we know its originally 'found' by humans

While Corkus lore sadly, arent really in detail, even tho Corkus were settled by humans from Fruma
In the lore, the Corkus island has no known location to any race. It is an island populated by Fruma's separatists who are speculated to be fighting the Monarchy of Fruma.
I dont know about the timeline of when did Fruma's separatists (Aka humans) were settled in corkus, as lore didnt mention its before villager arrived, or after villager arrived
But still, it kinda impossible for humans in Troms knowing the method of doing this type of science..
Specially when Slykaar is a shaman.. So yeah, this part makes kinda non-sense for me, when we read this little part of the quest again

uhm.. if you are free enough, dont mind to tell me what quest is it about science also?
I dont know if they are all related, but Im kinda interest to try to see if i can find an answer of this weird cases atm

I mean Corkus is probably the best example, but they use “electro magic” which is basically electricity for magic. I wouldn’t look into it too much tbh. I meant before is that they use either magic or science just as a plot device. That’s why they are used when it’s convenient and they are interchangeable.

I know Corkus is one of the point making if this is a possible thing, but sadly as what I can find from lore so far, its really hard to link the relationship of Corkus bringing the knowledge of science to Troms even if I can assume the cases as 'They actually do know other knowledge on science, just that they havent revealed any of those'

Corkus didn't bring the knowledge of science to Troms; Troms probably knows Corkus exists, but given that Troms doesn't have complex machinery, they haven't had any signifcant contact. I'm sure it's not important to explaining why Skylaar has DNA vials.
