We've all had the same thoughts at some point or another.
"How's the update coming?"
"How much of it is finished?"
"What are you guys doing?"

That's why I'm proposing that we get some progress reports from the content team every so often, just so we know how they're doing, and can keep our hopes high. Without keeping people updated, you end up in a Team Fortress 2-esque scenario, where you're given nothing, and basically just have to guess what's going on. That's pretty much what we're in now, with the "soon(tm)" stuff, and general contempt for the content team among players.
It's worth noting that I'm not saying they should leak the stuff they're working on; that isn't necessary for this. Rather, I'm simply saying that there should be regular reports about certain things that have been completed, even if they have to be vague about it. This would allow people to remain hyped about new updates, without being totally spoiled on what's actually happening.

"Wait, wouldn't this give away too much?"

Nope! Like I said before, you can put out regular reports about updates without spoiling stuff. For example, rather than saying "We finished work on [insert dungeon name]!", they could instead say "We finished work on a new dungeon!" Again, this allows people to get a general idea of what's going on, and remain hyped about future content without actually knowing what the content is.

"How often should reports be given out, and what should be in one?"

Everyone's going to have a different idea of how frequent reports should be, but I'd say one per month is acceptable. As for what should be in a progress report, that's also going to vary from person to person, but some info about what's been finished, what's being worked on, what's being reworked, etc. Pictures/teasers could be provided as well to further the hype. This thread written by Grian is a great example of what a progress report should be; enough info to remove doubt from people's minds, but not enough to spoil them.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my proposal is to receive regular (perhaps monthly) progress reports from the content team. These reports do not necessarily have to spoil certain things; they just have to be informative enough to remove doubt from people's minds, and increase hype for future content, much like Grian's 1.17 thread. Hopefully this suggestion will be heard, and we can finally answer the age-old Wynncraftian question:

"What are you guys working on?"​

 

I'm on the CT and I support this, I would love to be more open with you guys about our progress, right now there's a huge disconnect between us and I don't want there to be any conflict when the update releases. What the players want/need to be added and what the CT does sometimes don't line up and being able to be more open and get your thoughts on some things I think would help improve the quality of our updates and the experience for you guys.

 

Well frequency shouldn't be a thing, it should be more like as soon as they finish something and are happy about it they make a small reply on a thread about it instead of making monthly deadlines for them
And it shouldn't be only for the CT but for the dev team too cuz getting a tweet from jumla once per month isn't detailed enough

 

This will soften the impact on what they will release and such. Not many things wrong with this that I can spot. So you get an "A" from me.

Great idea :) I totally agree that we're kept in the dark too long as a community. It's been 4 months since we've heard anything, and it's nearly 7 months since we've had an update.

Currently all we know is:
Troms is getting reworked
There will be new quests and revamped quests
Mythics are all getting reworked/balanced
There is some new music

I do wish for other CTs to see this other than Xavier because a lot of them need to see this as well as some Mods and hopefully an Admin as this idea can benefit both parties. (By that I mean comment showing your support guys!) There is barely any downsides to this compared to the plentiful amount of upsides. Shown from the things you guys have given thus far, it has lessen the impact on what you guys are releasing but the impact was still huge. So this way the community isn't hit hard, Mods, Admins, CTs, and other Staff get less hate, there will be an increase down of threads that are mainly about what little information you have given us. Anyway I hope this thread gets its point across and I fully support it. Thank you all!

I like this idea. Although this could maybe cause some false hype like around gavel. That was teased too far in advance and people lost alot of hype before it was even released. It's very hard to balance. What's too much and too little.

 

I believe this would solve a problem I have been noticing quite frequently recently. Many people do not even believe the team when they say things such as “We’re working on ____ update.” or “Guilds are being fixed, just wait.”
I think progress reports such as Memethyl suggested would end these sentiments that have recently spread throughout the community.

We do notice and discuss such posts in chats, yet sometimes there are a lot of important points that might prevent us from doing so & are not easily visible to the public.
That said, of course many CT members do agree. But in the end we don't have a uniform opinion, and the lastsay goes to the admins - and more often than not, they do know what they're doing.

 

Although, you guys are more of the voice than anything else here. At least sound out some of your opinions. You have a job of bringing Content. However most of your content has hit the community a bit too hard and that is where many problems start to arise. When said problems arise, there tends to be an outbreak and then it becomes a mess. I understand you guys are limited. But there comes to a point between you being limited, and you not telling us anything. I am not hating our anything else, it is just an opinion. Don't really hate on me for this as this is MY understanding of how this are.

Yea, this would definitely be cool, but what if we spoil too much?

 

you don’t necessarily have to say what you’ve finished, just say how things are, if the updates on time, if you’re doing better than you thought, worse, etc

It’s like with the coding update. I know the CT isn’t working on this update but I’m still going to use it as an example. All we’ve got ten is the vague “Jumla is working on it.” Yet we have no idea where he’s at or how much he’s done.

 

Jumla is not the only one working on it; Apollo, Colin, and others are too.

And yea, sounds good.

 

I’m sure everyone would like to do this except for the Admins. Something about this update seems... off...

 

Grian has also made it pretty clear that they have nothing on the table right now to show. He said he doesn’t want to create meaningless hype like with Gavel. Lemme look for the thread.

 

I mean, those are basically synonymous with each other at times with how little we're allowed to say, depending on the topic.
