I think that happens because that message is connected to a quest region in which you must progress further into it in order to access the whirlpool. Because it is an area that requires a helmet to access, the region still needs the helmet even if you reach the particular stage in the quest (the message acts as a reminder that the helmet is needed to enter).

So, even when you have the helmet on, you will get that message if you haven't reached the part of the quest where you need to go down there. There really isn't a way to avoid this if you want to remind players about the helmet requirement but keep it blocked off until a certain quest stage.

I'm actually a girl, but thanks anyways. It's just a mechanic that can't be really modified due to the nature of quest regions/stages.

That explains the reason why you can't enter the whirlpool. The cave refers to the place you get the dentures, not the place in the whirlpool where you get the water item. Once you get the dentures and return to Rynver, you should reach the quest stage where you can access the whirlpool.
