World Change Meteor Spell To Meteorite! 49 Supporters!

Hello everyone!

I was just thinking and I thought that meteor spell should be renamed to meteorite because it is incorrect. The meteor spell in wynncraft strikes the earth. The astronomical definition for meteor is:

NOUN
1.
Astronomy.

1. a meteoroid that has entered the earth's atmosphere.
2. a transient fiery streak in the sky produced by a meteoroid passingthrough the earth's atmosphere; a shooting star or bolide.

This goes to show that the METEOR does not ever touch the earth. A meteor is simply a meteoroid that passes through the earth's atmosphere, never touching the ground.

It should be renamed to meteorite because a meteorite does touch the ground. Definition:

NOUN
1.
a mass of stone or metal that has reached the earth from outerspace; a fallen meteoroid.
2.
a meteoroid.

The mage spell, meteor, is not correct according to the english dictionary and the astronomical term of meteor.

As for real reasons,

Notice the second definition. That's what the Meteor spell is. Apart from Meteorite not sounding as good, using Meteor is still right.

 

It's definitely a good thing to have a change now and then.

Uhm no, he's right. Meteorite is a landed chunk of space rock, meteor is one that enters the earths atmosphere but does not land. Grammatically correct it is indeed :P

 

But, "Bolide" sounds cooler. "a large meteor that explodes in the atmosphere.", also it kind of fits the spell too. Because Meteor is a explosive spell and the definition includes "Explodes". I mean yeah technically Bolides do not hit the ground, but do we know for sure that the meteor spell has a rock that hits the ground and isn't something just exploding right before it hits the ground and technically is still a meteor, or in this case a Bolide?

 

Meteor sounds cooler so I wont support this.

 

I don't know what a bolide is, but it doesn't sound traditional or medievalish

Well, what @MinerDwarf222 said, bolide is a term that is a synonym to meteor, not a meteorite. And besides, I agree with @SaltyPhox about how it doesn't sound as cool and may make players not understand the word.

There's no chunk of space rock in the meteor spell, in case you didn't notice. It's just a streak of fire.

If we're going super logic on this, which we really, really shouldn't, it's not really either. It's just a fireball.

 

That's no reason to deny SCIENCE!

 

However the wynn team specifically said it was a meteor, and it does EARTH damage. Funny, i thought it was just a fireball.
