?

Should we have an auto-bump feature enabled for thread starters to use?

It's already just as easy to bump, you just have to put a message in it. There's no difference. Both do the same thing. This would also benefit your posts so you don't have to have 200 posts solely saying "10charbump" and your post:like ratio can be more accurate, considering saying "10charbump" isn't exactly worth liking. The current system and my idea have no differences, just saves spamming a thread with bumps...

This is literally one of the simplest things ever.

If anything it would clean up forums a bit, there'd be no reason for someone over bumping their thread via bump10char to say "I didn't know the time limit/cooldown for bumping." when the button shows the timer.

Exactly. Plus, they could make a rule where you aren't allowed to bump by simply saying "bump/10charbump" or whatever and you have to use the timer. That would keep a fair system in place where you can't bump it with the button then 2 hours later post on it. This would ridiculously help clean up threads and the forums.

If you still see downsides, please explain them in better detail. There aren't really downsides to this. There isn't any "discouraging people to post" or whatever. Hell, the 10 character limit was probably set up so you don't just say "bump"...

    *types bumpity bump onto thread*
    *presses enter*
    *very difficult and laborious process*

This feature is literally the exact same, except it takes less time and is more convenient.
Overall, it would actually discourage spam bumping, due to the 18 hour cooldown. there is literally no downside to this being added whatsoever. On top of that, it is already a XenForo feature, so no extra code is needed.

    So once again
    what downsides are there?

Another upside: People watching your thread/recently replied to your thread will not get notifications for you saying "bump10char" if you use the button. They're more likely to continue watching your thread instead of getting annoyed by the notifications and un-watching.

If its 18 hours then thats fine, but originally people were talking about things like 6 hour bumps.

You click a button, then you don't have to do anything
    EDIT: I found another problem.
    Lets say a person has
    2 threads on trade market
    2 threads on general suggestions
    1 thread on wynncraft

And they turn auto bump on
Now, if they happen to quit or something, and forget to turn off auto bump, you're left with threads that keep reviving, and no one can do anything to stop it.

    Again, you're not understanding.

Each time you click "Bump Thread", it bumps it up one time. Clicking this button does not make it automatically re-bump every 18 hours. You still manually have to bump it, you just avoid spamming your thread with 10charbump's.

    Do you understand now?

The easiest way I can explain it to you is with a system that's already in place. Your totems refresh automatically, but they do not PLACE automatically for you, you.have.to.click.a.button.daily. Why don't you understand this?

All you have to do is just to click a button and bump your thread. You do it MANUALLY, not AUTOMATICALLY.

    The end.

overall a good suggestion, let me just vote 'Yes"

I support this but there are some downsides
on threads that have an idea the bumps were forcing people to think of new aspects to keep the thread alive

    I have some questions
if I watch the thread and it gets bumped do I get a notification?
what's stopping someone from keeping a dead thread on the front page?

This is exactly how it works. It's an already existing XenForo feature based through permissions.
    1. No, you shouldn't get notified.
    2. Nothing, but technically someone can still bump a dead thread now by using a message. There's no difference.
