we all know that you need 10 messages to post links, images, or videos.
however, 10 is too high, and i propose that it be reduced to 3.

requiring 10 messages to post links/images/video leads to spamming threads and/or replies throughout the forums, so people can post links/images/videos for other things:

    upload_2017-2-21_18-51-5.png
(disclaimer: actually a good song, only using this as an example, not trying to be a jackass)

while these spammed threads get deleted by mods shortly after creation, the 10 message restriction enables spam. reducing it to three would be a nice compromise, as it would lead to less reply/thread spam being posted, and would overall increase convenience for new users to post things other than text.

    FAQ:
what about spambots? wouldn't a 3-message link requirement lead to spambots posting a few replies before posting their links?
spambots get banned very shortly after they post anyway, so it's unlikely they'd bother with that.
even if they did, they tend to post links as titles of threads and in status updates, so not much would change.

There should just be a limit on how many threads you can make within a certain amount of time, to discourage this. Couple that with a message telling people to make real content and not garbagepost, and we can solve this easily.

Having less than 10 messages be the requirement would mean more and worse spam.

    i don't quite understand

not really, people usually stop spamming threads once they get enough for their shop/videos/whatever and start posting actual content

Spam, as in real spam. The reason it exists in the first place is to stop spambots from flooding the site. As you'll notice, the worst spam we ever get is text-based nonsense.

The idea is pretty good because most spam bots usually get noticed and banned after they made their first thread, so a spam bot wouldn't actually get 3 messages in the first place, let alone 10 messages.

But I still think you should get that 'not a robot' check mark when you make an account
(It checks your location, IP, the way you moved your cursor to the box or how long it took you to do that. And if it can't decide if you're a bot or not it gives you some tests)

this should be a suggestion all by itself, we'd get way less spambots if we made people do the "i'm not a robot" captcha when creating an account
the captcha system's become way less stupid now, so it wouldn't be a big inconvenience to new users
