Website & Forums Search Within Thread

Since 2011, XenForo (what the wynn forums are built on) has had support for a search function that searches for keywords only in a specific thread (or forum category). It looks like this:

I'm new to the wynn forums, but I already have had many instances in which such a search would have been incredibly usefull. On the wynncraft forums, it seems that you can only search from the forum index. This brings up results from all threads, which is not always helpful. For example, I wanted to look for up to date prices of a specific item in the item value thread, but I instead found links to hundreds of shop pages to wade through. Control-f doesn't help either, because it only looks at one page at a time. When a thread looks like this:

there is basically nothing you can do.

Adding a search within thread option would make forum navigation much more painless, both for new users and veteran posters.

It would be a very simple fix to a big problem that I think the staff should seriously consider.

 

click the "more" button, you can restrict the search to a specific section, player and tags

 

This comes close, but it only lets you browse by forum category. So you would still be searching through all trade posts trying to find a response in the item valuation thread, or if you were searching a giveaway to see if a number was taken it would search all the giveaways and other posts in that forum. The search in thread function already exists in XenForo and is very simple to implement; I don't see any reason why that last level of search shouldn't be added.

 

you can limit it to a specific player, if you want to search in a specific thread your best bet is to control F what you are looking for and just going through all of the pages. (it is kinda dumb to go over all of the numbers you want tho)

 

Yeah, and if you don't know who would have posted it and you have a ton of pages (i.e. any giveaway thread, item value thread, big auction thread, etc) then it's a huge pain to control f every page systematically. A function like this would make things easier.

 

well out of specific giveaway I don't really see the purpose of this.

 

This is what searching for an item value is like-you way too many other threads mixed in.
Even without instances like this, it's just a very easy and a very handy forum tool to have to enhance the user experience.

 

you do have a price check thread tho, and seeing for how much others sold the same item is a great way to know its value
