Nothing really majorly important, and it doesn't necessarily have to be changed, I just thought I'd let you know.
Fire is usually associated with strength, and earth with defense.
Because fire, while not good for stopping a sword from cutting you to bits unless it's being used to kill your enemy, does incredible damage as cauterized wounds take a while to heal.
Earth, while still good for hitting someone with a rock, it's more effective to block with that rock.

 

It'd take far too much effort to change all the items anymore and it'd ruin a ton of peoples' builds anymore.

Earth can hit hard like a rock, while fire is a symbol of heart, of home, and sometimes the expression" a fire within me is used"
This references internal strength and courage, a defensive quality

 

Umm.
"Internal Strength" = Defense?

 

*sigh* when you talk about how thick or solid metal is, you say it's STRENGTH, even though you're talking about resistance(defense)
If you have a lot of internal strength, you are hard to hurt and you have a lot of stamina/endurance.

 

Even then, in most situations and games, fire is seen as the damage element, where earth is the defense element.
"The fire within" refers to passion and courage, in most cases means a natural leader/fighter.
You can't block a sword with fire.
Earth can be used to describe strength of will, what you were talking about, as defense.

I agree with this however we cannot change it. It's been around for too long and like Selvut said it would take way too much effort for the items.
