You might want to list destinations ^-^ good suggestion by the way! (Also make room to build ship exteriors, the build team will have some "fun" with that.)

I really think this is a good idea. I wouldn't add it though, because I've made it to Gavel riding a boat at level 8. The boat ride to Selchar took about 1 minute and 30 seconds. (of course I just used Selchar as a pit stop, but 3 minutes is crazy.) I think this is a neat idea, just unnecessary.

Additional suggestion: once you travel to an island, go back on the pier and get a free ride back to nemract. Also, add jofash docks in the Same category as gavel gate.
EDIT: Also, since the customization thing might be to much like he housing suggestion, maybe have all the ships the same, but have the upgrade able things belowdecks. These would be only entered if unlocked.

Especially with the Gavel expansion, travelling has become more difficult, as distances are increasing!

So, I thought about adding a new means of transportation, ships!

- You can enter the [Ship-menu] via a npc located at the port;

The two port-destination would be Nemract (at the docks), and Llevigar, (at the place the "Priate's Trove" quest is started)

- The ship menu will let you buy and customize a ship. At higher costs and levels, you can unlock perks like a nemract whiskey bar or even a little on-board bank

- Once you bought the ship, you can access it via entering a mini-portal in form of some particles floating around at the end of the landing stages

- You can then choose a destination! Note: Some islands (these far away) can only be chosen after buying an upgrade of range at the shipyard

- Depending on how far away your destination is, it will take 1-5 minutes to get there. While traveling you are in a boat containing your bought facilities. Similiar to the current air-traveling system, you'd hear/see particles, to make the whole thing seem more like travelling, while in truth, you aren't moving at all.

- Upon reaching your desired destination, you will be teleported out of the ship.

This will not replace the current boat system, since they are useful for travelling between smaller island.

(Suggestion for level-unlocks and the neat color-formatting made by @Jaycee !)

short = (60 sec), fair = (120 sec), medium = (180 sec), long = (240 sec), far = (300 sec)

Ship Purchase:
Option unlocks at level 20.

Near Travel - Tier 1:
No purchase; unlocks at level 20.
- Durum Isles (60 sec | 1 min)
- Rooster Islands (60 sec | 1 min)
- The Bear Zoo (60 sec | 1 min)
- Halfmoon Island (120 sec | 2 min)

Ocean Travel - Tier 2:
Purchase unlocks at level 30.
- Mage Island (120 sec | 2 min)
- Selchar (180 sec | 3 min)
- Zhight Island (120 sec | 2 min)
- Christmas Island (120 sec | 2 min)

Remote Travel - Tier 3:
Purchase unlocks at level 40.
- Pirate Town (180 sec | 3 min)
- Ice Islands (180 sec | 3 min)
- (Nodguj/Dujgon Nation) - (240 sec | 4 min)
- Skiens Islands (180 | 3 min)

Perilous Travel - Tier 4
Purchase unlocks at level 45.
- Dead Island (270 sec | 4.5 min)
- Maro Peaks (270 sec | 4.5 min)
- Tree Island (240 sec | 4 min)
- Vulcano Island (300 sec | 5 min)

Distant Travel - Tier 5
Purchase unlocks at level 40.
- Gavel Gate (300 sec | 5 min)

Piracy:
By default, you have a 10% chance of getting attacked by pirates while traveling.
The chance increases by 5% for every new Tier of destinations unlocked.
The chance can be lowered, by buying guards at the shipyard.

If attacked, mobs with a black leather armor and a custom-npc head (=Meele Pirates)
and mobs with a white leather armor, a bow and the custom-npc head (=Ranged Pirates)
will spawn. The fight would take place on the deck of the ship, the pirates will be 5-10 lvls under the players lvl.
When you win the fight, you will gain a small potion of xp, and your desired location will be reached instantly.
When losing the fight, you will be teleported back to Nemract and 1 SP will be lost.

Parties:
When being in a party while entering the ship, a sign (like the guild-ones) will appear asking you if you would like to take your partymembers with you. Each of them will receive a sign-message too, upon agreement they will be teleported to the same ship. Pirate-attacks also will be adjusted to the average-party level.

Clan feature:
Clans will have the /guild ship command, accesable for Captain+ Ranks
It will open the same menu as the shipyard menu, with the difference that you can buy and customize a clan-ship. It would be handy for reaching and defending a territory far off all cities, like Tree Island. When someone starts a ship-travel via the "start-block" in the /guild ship menu, all players in the guild will receive a message similiar to the guild-war message. After a 5minute countdown, all clanmembers in the Nemract area will be teleported to the . The traveling costs will be paid from the clan-bank, and the chance of getting attacked by pirates is increased by 10% in general.
Upon getting attacked by pirates, all guildmembers on board will be teleported to a larger version of the soloplayer-deck, similiar to parties, the pirate-level would be the average.

When the fight ends and all pirates are defeated, the guild will gain a small amount of xp, and the desired location will be reached instantly. Additionaly, all players will receive 1 [Stolen Pirate Whiskey], applying resistance and the "drunk-effect" for 20 seconds.

I really like this idea and I am in full support. However, in conjunction with @Kingkrogmo , I think this system might be a little
too complex for the devs.

I think a simple ferry system based on the time of day/night wouldn't be too bad.

Also, maybe you could buy sails to make it go faster? For example, you would have an upgrades-sail ratio of 1-2 and what ever the number that equals to (1 sail, 5 upgrades = 2.5 = x, time (Lets say 120seconds * x = the time. That way it would take 5 minutes, unless you spent more money on sails then upgrades, you would go faster. For example, 5 sails, 1 upgrade would be 0.1. Thus, the ride would be so much faster, that 120 seconds would be 1. Just because you bought more sails.

Maybe add an external add-on where you can buy cannons, and like guards, it lowers the chance of a pirate attack?
