Website & Forums 'location' As A Drop-down List Of Countries

Some of you may be aware of the 'location' field when you're filling out your profile. This field allows you to input anything, which will be shown on on your profile page as, obviously, your location. Now, I've seen a few younger forum members put their actual home address in this field, which is never a good idea (listening, kids?). This disturbs me quite a bit.
If a drop-down list of countries to choose from was introduced, replacing the current input field, this problem would be gone. I'm surprised it hasn't been implemented already.
Anyway, just a thought.

 

not that much harm in posting your address but hey, extra caution never killed anyone.

 

I think it would be better if they did something like this:

Never put your address here where others can find you!

 

Sure, why not, just the thing is that if someone finds out where someone lives, the worst they are going to do is stare at there house on google maps

 

I've honestly never seen this happen, and I imagine it's possible to put some kind of warning in the profile creation/editing section not to put your home address. Being able to customize your location allows for a bit of expression, for people who don't input any real locations, and I have yet to actually see anyone put in a home address.

 

The drop down menu would stop people from putting stuff like "The Canyon of the Lost" and stuff like that.

 

And then you have people like Pretzule.
