An Alternative To Necro Posting

Necro has been around for quite a while, and really it makes sense. For those of you who don't know what Necro is, it is basically replying to a thread that hasn't been touched for a month (30 or so days). I do believe that rules against Necro make sense, but I feel like there is a much better solution to the problem.

I *believe* it would not be too much of a pain to throw a counter on every newly-created thread that would say "This thread expires in X days." that would be updated back to 30 after each new reply. That way the 14 thousand or so threads that are not even looked at anymore can be deleted, effectively cleaning the forums.

There are two obstacles to this thread that I can think of. The first is that helpful threads that nobody replies to anymore would be deleted. This problem could easily be averted with the creation of an "undying" mark, or something like the sticky that would prevent a thread from being deleted. Well-known shop owners could also apply for this mark to prevent their hard work from being destroyed. The second and much more complicated obstacle is the "Likes you've received" tab. Deleting Necro threads by this method would also mean deleting the replies, and the likes received, with them. While this should not affect the counter, the loss of these posts would still affect nostalgic players. A way of fixing this problem could be to record the comment in the "Likes you have received" tab, and make those comments only accessible to the player who owns the comment.

All in all, this, to me, seems like a nice little addition to the forums that would help clean out the archives. Comment below your suggestions and other problems with this system you think of.

Don't delete them, just lock them.

 

Anyone can just tab their shop "undying" and boom never be locked or deleted. Overall this basically means threads being deleted or your posts being deleted doesn't count off your thing.

 

I thought about this, but I decided to go with delete. I feel like it doesn't matter weather the threads are locked are deleted because nobody will look at them just the same

Content before the forums

 

As much as I like that, I would like you to take the time to see the amount of mods to the amount of players there are on the forums. And how moderators don't have all the time to view the forums, as not always being active, how this will be added with no one doing this and how much time it will take, is honestly not the best. To having to "apply" it will take up more time that moderators want to view the forum. They often do it for just regular forum stuff or ban appeals, which can take quite a while, adding this would be kinda a hassle with everyone having to "apply" and looking through them and again, trying to add this system.

 

Maybe instead of deleting them, the post would get locked and hidden if there was no activity for 30 and it isn't a sticky post, then it would also be hidden from the list but the owner can unlock it if they wanted to.

NO. En, Oh, No. There are too many historic threads that people DO refer to, often enough, that have a huge amount of work put into them. We would lose those, and we would lose a lot of historic information. We also don't really need threads repeated a billion times, because the older thread got erased. You have no idea of how bad the forum wipe accident was, but trust me, the staff was scrambling to repopulate the forums and add back the important threads on rules and information. So, sorry, but I've got to say, from my point of view, Just Don't Do It!

 

We used to have an autolock system, however it hasn't worked in a while. So we decided to close posts that are dead.
Also "necro" is death, a necropost is what we close for ;D
In reality if we got the autolock system back we wouldn't close threads because they'd be closed already.
