Lamps

I think that players should be able to purchase lamps from cities, what they do is when you hold them, a 7x7 block area is lit up so that people can see at night

 

I like the Idea but maybe if they could burn out, I think that would be even better

 

All, first of all why? I fail to see a purpose if you have your brightness on max you can see perfectly fine. Second of all cost. Try to add more detail, how much does it cost? What's the item? Show us more game mechanics. How do we place it down? How long does it last? Etc.

 

Well, some people who have darker ministers than others might appreciate it, and for the people who do youtube, they might like their viewers to see better...

 

sorry to add on to your idea (I'm just thinking of other cool things that could go with it) what if there are a few caves that you can't enter unless you have a lamp and it could say some thing about the darkness can only be fought off with the light of a magic lamp and the caves would have better farming spots. Also there could be two main types of lamps one kind that you place down (letting you use a different item in your when in a dark cave) and a lamp that you hold that lets you walk freely with out placing lamps down

 

This is a pretty good idea :O Though all this does is add some light, and you can do it with gamma. So it shouldn't be that expensive and I think that as long as its in its your hotbar you can still see in a 3x3 area. (Kind of like having a lamp in your pocket) and if you hold it its a 5x5 area, and placed its 7x7

 

im no good with coming up for ideas for the game, i just add what i think should be added, and let the repliers add

 

Being able to place them could lead to some trouble. Other than that, everything else is great.

 

You wouldn't believe how much lag this would cause. There would be thousands of block updates from lights going on and off and moving.

Thousands? with a usual 3x3 radius of light, and 60 players,... thats like 640 updates...... Also there are much more laggier things

 

you can actually change settings in the .minecraft folder so you always see things lit up (caves, night ect.)

 

If you mean summoning in thousands of blocks at once, yes. However lighting updates are some of the most lag inducing things. Constantly having block light be updated wouldn't be good for the lag situation.

 

This idea is interesting, but how would you "place" the lamp down if you can't modify the land in Wynn. Would it just be an entity? Perhaps you could drop it on the ground and you would be able to pick it back up when you are done

 

I think by placing it would be like dropping a item and it becomes a custom block, since if it was a entity walking through lamps would be a new thing. :P

 

or you could use your computer, and get nightvision.
