Better Custom Resource Packs Support

No, you're right. The community would be very different without resource pack creators. That said, we're not establishing a totalitarian system. You're at liberty to make as many packs as you like; it is, however, entirely up to the owners on how they distribute the resource pack, and whether you are allowed to use the official pack for other packs. If we let you make small changes to it, that opens up an entire new avenue in which people think they can take the pack and make drastic changes to it, even going as far as relabelling it as a new, non-WC affiliated resource pack.

For those who can't download the pack properly: sorry, we're trying to get this fixed.

I'd love to see some other packs out there myself, but I rather suspect that we can't just release the pack to the wider community without getting our months of work, well, ruined.

So first thing first, everyone has already access to the pack just by logging one time on the server and search for the pack in the server resource packs folder of Minecraft.

Then I understand your point here, and will ask you and the entire dev team : Can I use the official ressource pack to make another one that I would post here on the forum as a Wynncraft Resource pack made entirely for the server ?

So, depending on your response, I would continue working on it or not. And if you allow people to make derivatived resource packs, that would really be cool to somehow make the message reminding you that you are not using the official resource pack appear less often or disableable.

 

It's a bit of a difficult question, since Mojang is giving us more and more tools with resource packs to enhance our game in an official way. I understand that people want to make their own resource packs, but if you are going to redo the whole game's look by changing all block textures and the 80+ weapons we have, not to mention the incredibly complex models that are going to come in a future update, then you might as well be in the official resource pack team.

Now, if it's something like changing a few models and a few textures here and here, making a derivation of the official pack, that's totally understandable and should be a possibility. Who knows, maybe the devs will find a way to implement some way to use user resource packs.

 

I made a little post on this. What you need to do is access your main minecraft folder (%appdata% thingy for Windows / Finder > Library > Application Support > Minecraft for Apple) and find the folder called server-resource-packs. In that, there should be a file called "legend". turn this into a folder (add .zip for Apple, then click on it. Not sure how to do that on Windows.) and put the file into the normal resourcepacks folder. You can google anything you don't understand.

One of the first comments has a better solution: they just put the download for the Wynncraft Resource pack in the comments, so you can skip all but the last step.

 

Third-party resource packs would be great.

 

Actually I was willing to basicelly change almost every item looks using CIT (Custom Item Textures) using MCPatcher/Optifine, so i guess that would change the whole game's look.
But that would require months of work to make a custom texture for every item in the game just by myself. (and even more if you guys add new models or new way of coding items in the future)
So I don't really know on what you guys are working on with resource packs/items or if you are recruiting for packs makers, but if that's the case I would definitely want to join you since I don't think I would be able to make an entire pack by myself.

But all this doesn't change the subject of the thread, and I would still think that making a better resource pack support in the game would be something to do.

 

Before the resource pack was made, I used to play with my own costom pack and I had a decent laptop. No lag no loss of frame rate (50-60). Now there's no way for me to play on the wynn craft server because their recourse pack causes a lot of frame rate loss and its just uncomfortable for me(5-10). I really like the recourse pack but it's just not something my laptop could handle. To play Wynn craft at the moment the player would need a computer that could take in a lot. I would really love it if one could play without the recourse pack so then me and the community that doesn't have the requirements to handle the recourse pack could enjoy Wynn craft for the best mmo rpg in mine craft there is

 

I just want this to reduce load times especially switching between wynncraft servers. usually it loads then you got to wait 5 hours for the custom pack to load which does not happen when its selected as a texure pack.
