Allowing Players To Join Without Downloading The Pack

As you probably know, refusing to use the resource pack in Wynn will simply not let you play. At all. There's no way around it. I can understand why they force it upon us to download the pack. Quite a lot of stuff would not make much sense, such as weapons being wooden stairs (lol) and the custom characters (such as the emerald count you see with merchants and elemental damage) would display completely different characters. However, the pack comes with a few downsides.

1. There is a freeze while the pack is being initiated. This will happen every single time someone joins a world. The length of the freeze depends on the performance of the computer being used. This is a fairly minor issue.

2. There is a huge limit placed on customization. Before the update, players could use whatever resource pack they wanted to. Now, there is no way to make it look the way we want it to look. No offense to the resource pack maker, but some of us would rather have the blocks and items look differently.

3. Some players might have issues downloading the pack. Some clients will crash when they try to download it.

4. All of the 3D models can cause performance issues.

One way to deal with this is to provide an option inside of /toggle. Attempting to toggle it would cause more text to appear, explaining what it means and why you might want to leave it enabled. There will be a green "Cancel" button that will cancel the toggle. Next to it will be an "I understand" button in red, which when clicked on, will allow the user to join the server without downloading the resource pack.

This will immediately solve 3 out of the 4 issues, while not effecting the average user. The only issue this wouldn't solve is #3, as /toggle is only available when logged on. Resource pack makers and editors can easily get the server's resource pack through the instructions below.

Spoiler: Instructions

1. Exit the server.
2. Open your resource packs.
3. Click 'Open Resource Pack Folder"
4. Go back to .minecraft folder, and open server-resource-packs
5. Delete everything in the server-resource-packs folder (Don't worry, this won't cause any damage)
6. Open Minecraft, join Wynncraft, download the pack, and then quit Minecraft
7. In the server-resource-packs folder you should find a new file. It's called "legacy", but it might change in the future. Believe it or not, this is the Wynncraft resource pack.
8. Open it with 7-Zip, win-rar or a similar program. Copy everything in it into an empty folder. You can name the empty folder whatever you want to.
9. Open Minecraft once again. Go to resource packs. Click "Open Resource Packs Folder"
10. Drag the folder into the resource packs folder.
11. Close everything out and restart Minecraft 1 more time.

You now have the resource pack!

I managed to find somewhat of a solution. The server no longer kicks you for not having the resource pack, and (using what you explained) you can easily aqquire the pack for yourself. You can simply disable the resource pack on the server (using the edit option on the server list) and use the Wynncraft pack instead, which doesn't freeze you upon log in. This however gives you a message since the server didn't detect your download. It tells you you're not using the pack, and should enable it. This tells you every so often and become rather annoying, so if, like with autojoin, they put this as a log-in only message, it will solve everyones problems.

 

It doesn't kick me, sure, but whenever I try to join without the resource pack I end up falling into an endless void when the class selection screen should be displaying.

 

I think being able to disable the whole pack is a bit overdoing it, but it would be cool if you could disable all non-essential elements, but not the important stuff like weapon skins.

 

I'm with the Trash can!.. That sounded way better in my head.

 

Try using the command /toggle autojoin, this means that the class you logged off with will be automatically selected (avoiding the void issue), and makes it much easier to play Wynncraft as you don't need to keep selecting your class.

 

You can do this by simply disabling "server textures" somewhere in the options menu. Can't remember where but i've definitely used this feature before.

 

It worked! Thanks! Unfortunately, once every around 30 seconds, it's now spamming me with "Warning! You do not have the Wynncraft Resource Pack. etc etc..."
