Character Names

What is it?

My idea of character names is to allow players to display a first and last name instead of their Minecraft IGN in chat and above their head using a simple command.

Why is this needed?

Wynncraft is an RPG. Although not everyone on the server roleplays that much, I think it will give players the feeling that they are interacting with someone with an actual name. For example, instead of having a conversation with ThisIsJustARandomExample4121, you would have a conversation with Robert Stone. I also hope that it will encourage people to roleplay more.

How will it work?

Players will be able to use the following command: /name [First Name] [Last Name]. This will set their character's name in chat and above their head to the name they inserted for all their classes. It will be required for everyone to insert a first and last name. Players will only be able to change their name once every 90 days.

Won't this function be abused?

There will always be people who will try to abuse functions like these. To prevent swear words from being in names, a filter for swear words could be added to the command (I don't know if this is possible).

How will I recognise people?

There will be another command, /realname [First Name] [Last Name]. When using this command in combination with the first and last name of a player, it will show their Minecraft IGN.
The RPG name will be displayed above player's heads in white, and beneath it, in grey, will be their Minecraft IGN (as suggested by @Troll4ever31 )

 

This seems like a cool idea, but i think it would fit in a donor package better as it won't affect gameplay

I can see where you are coming from, but the main reason behind this suggestion was to encourage people to roleplay more. Making this option available only for donors would kinda ruin this idea imo.

 

Yeah, anyway it is a great idea and wouldn't require a lot of coding to do it

 

Instead of having you use a command to see somebodies real name, perhaps have the real name be under the roleplay name, in a less obvious color, so the rp name is white, and under that is the ign in gray.

 

This is actually a great idea. This could work very well for just the name above people's heads, but I think it wouldn't work that great in chat.
