The profession system still needs a lot of work. As of now, it's still quite a grind. But it's got potential, it's just a matter if that potential can be realized.

So I've got a bit of an odd idea. How about adding profession dungeons? They could work a little bit like boss altars, requiring a bit of gathering materials to enter. Once you get in, there could be some mobs that are immune to normal weapons. Instead, they need to be taken down using gathering tools. Here's a bit how it might work:

Let's say there's a level 10 profession dungeon called the Birch Burrow. It requires only 12 birch planks or birch string to get in, since it's the first profession dungeon. Once you're in, things get pretty crazy.

Each dungeon will have 4 rooms, each one dedicated to a separate profession. In the Birch Burrow, the first room is all about Birch trees. You'll need to fight the trees using a gathering axe, and get 6 tokens to progress. Repeat that for all professions in the dungeon. Once you're done with all 4 rooms, you have to fight a massive birch tree monster. Defeating it will result in a 10-minute profession XP boost and a dungeon token, which you can spend at shops near the entrance (like in normal dungeons).

Alright, let's break down that last paragraph because I need to do a lot of explaining. First, how are gathering tools going to be used as weapons? They can barely scratch 7 damage in vanilla, after all! Well, that's why I think a few new IDs should be added.

Gathering tools can have exclusive damage IDs catering to their profession. The higher tier the tool, the more damage it does to that specific ID.

Axes: Woodcutting ID (Only weapon that can damage enemies with the same ID)
    Pickaxes: Mining ID
    Hoes: Farming ID
    Fishing Rods: Fishing ID

Obviously this idea needs some tweaking for balancing purposes, but I just want to get the idea out there. All I want is to see more dynamic ways to level up professions, and I think adding these dungeons would be a really cool way to do that.

I don't really like the idea of turning professions in to just "combat level v2." gathering miniquests were fine, they made sense, but now people want profession quests, profession dungeons, etc. instead, I would like to see professions made better from the inside, by changing problematic mechanics and polishing the existing system, not by adding new combat level based content with a "professions" tag on it.
