I'm sure you've heard of Nintendo. One of the most influential companies in the world right now, it recently had it's star character's 35th anniversary. Nintendo started (this surprised me) as a board game company. They made Hanafuda, a style of cards in Japan. Once video games were starting to become slightly popular, Nintendo threw their hat into the ring with the NES, or Nintendo Entertainment System. The company experienced success with their first console, and the Italian plumber himself, Super Mario, became a household name. Fast-forward three decades, the company's current console is the Nintendo Switch, one of the most incredible inventions of all time.
The fact that it can be played as a handheld device, TV console, and potentially VR console makes it very unique among systems of this era. It also means that the console can be taken anywhere. To a friend's house, the park, school, the local strip-club, the possibilities are endless. The console doesn't suffer too hard when not on the charger either, so its entirely plausible to play games without it on the charger or dock. With a switch, there could be a whole new meaning for "smashing at the strip-club." The console also has the unique property of detachable controllers. The controllers can be taken a distance away from the switch itself without input lag being a problem. One of the greatest things about these detachable controllers is that more than two controllers can be connected to the switch. This is very unique among handheld consoles. The Nintendo DS and 3DS had limited multiplayer ability when near another person. Two consoles were needed, which is different from the Switch.
Since the Nintendo Switch can be brought anywhere, it is a hit at parties. The switch has an extensive library of multiplayer games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and more. Most people who were born during the days of early gaming may remember wanting so badly to sleep over at their one friend's house simply because that friend was the one with the GameCube or Nintendo 64. Now that the Switch is popular, people no longer have to be the rich kid's best friend, they only have to be acquaintances with the rich kid. Maybe not even acquaintances, they just have to have the rich kid know who they are, and they can play smash with people during lunch hour.
The Nintendo Switch provides a TV console experience on a handheld device. It can make friendships happen, and it makes playing video games much easier. Too bad the switch has a $299 price tag. Otherwise it would be a hit with literally every single person.
