Mount Races

Hello!
So I have recently bought and leveled up a wyvern. I have been really enjoying the new mount system as a whole, but especially the wyverns. While I was flying around and leveling it I had a cool idea. Mount racing!
Basically a minigame players can queue into on the party finder and race mounts through various parts of the wynn terrain.

A couple circuits I had in mind are the Ahms Sky islands, The Canyon of the Lost, Upper and lower molten heights, Corkus Industry area, and Rymek/the surrounding terrain.

Basically alot like elytra maps with flight rings, but using the flying/ground mounts instead.

"But why tho?" There are rewards. Participating in a race will level random stats on your mount that isn't maxeed yet, and give a bit of "world event" type loot for the top 3 performers.

Id argue there shouldn't be an entry cost like for raids or dungeons since its not a very profitable minigame, something more for fun (like sparrow racing for my D2 players ;). Different level mounts are clearly going to be more powerful than others I.E, a potential 240 vs a 1k. Possibly having a system that puts players with similar leveled mounts in the same competition could make it more fair? This could give reason to have more than 1 mount in the stables, for different level races and such. Since right now most people only have one of each type of mount in the stables. Possibly adding a races won leaderboard would be fun too! I'm not a game dev so I wont give any numbers/exacts.

Overall I think this would not only add more repeatable content through most of the game, but also add a more fun and engaging way to level and use mounts. I personally would play this just as much as raids.

I'm open to more additions/Ideas on this so please give ideas in response

 

I think this would be cool, an potentially give Silver I'll more to do. However the likelihood hood that consistent races can be queued for isn't going to be very high if I had to guess.

 

The gameplay in a mount race would be holding down W, swiveling your camera sometimes, and hoping that your mount is better. It would require a lot of work to make an engaging racing game out of the mount system.

 

Racing against other players might not be fun, but doing a race course?

 

Originally I was thinking that there wouldn't be enough people interested in this to have a bunch of different level ranges to compete in, but honestly, would there even need to be level divisions?

The difference between an 80 speed and a 150 stat mount is noticeable, but I'm honestly not sure that someone who's good at a course wouldn't have a fighting chance with the worse mount. Someone with a starter mount is basically guaranteed to lose, but I don't think thay anyone who would be interested in running more than one race to try it out would particularly care; having to have a good mount to win in a race is neither unexpected, nor a huge barrier to entry for someone actually interested. If you were gonna do this a lot you'd probably end up getting a good mount anyway, and getting one is not super difficult or expensive, just time-consuming, which someone interested in racing probably wouldn't mind.

Adding in strategic powerups or something would probably also not be too hard (the fact that they regularly do stuff that seems impossible might mess with my expectations a little, but this doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to do), and would help level the playing field in terms of mount stats. (As would setting all of the mounts' stats to all be equal in a race, but I honestly think being rewarded for breeding up or buying a good mount is a good thing that encourages interaction with that aspect of game).

I do think that wyverns are the only mount it really makes a ton of sense for; the variability in altitude gives it a lot more complexity than I think you could get with horses or adasaurs. While both of those would technically work, I can't imagine they'd draw much of an audience. With wyverns you could basically make an elytra course and add powerups.

Honestly this seems like a super fun idea, and you could pretty easily set up a scoreboard for the best completion time every month and maybe hand out some rewards for that as well as individual races or something. If there was a wyvern racing league, I'd definitely join.

 

Hey hey hey this is familiar

Like a year ago I had a very bold idea of hosting with my guild (GLN) and an ally (TDbD) unofficial "triathlon" (meaning horse, foot and boat) races but it was very unpractical and we never did anything

Now with the new mounts and other people suggesting it, seems it could be time for a comeback...

(and I remark, COULD, because I'm yet to speak with the other guys and you have no idea how difficult it would be to organize something like this unofficially)

Yet I would really love to (mostly because of my motorsport hyperfixation, which could also help in creating interesting rules)

 

Oh this would be fun!
