Sneak, not shift.

In quest dialogue it tells you to press shift to continue. This is correct if you play with default keybinds, but new players who don't will have to remember that is isn't actually shift, but the button that they set it to.

I would like things like this to be changed to say sneak instead of shift, unless they definitely need the shift key, and not sneak.

 

i agree but, and im sorry for being pedantic about it but, its "sneak", not "crouch"

 

It you do not press shift for a while, then it changes from "shift" to "sneak"

The same argument you make that a new player might have a different keybind could be applied with greater strength to a new player unfamiliar with minecraft playing wynn -- which is really not as uncommon as you would think it is. A player familiar with Minecraft who has changed their keybinds will likely know that, by default, shift is sneaking, so when they see "press shift to continue" and it doesn't work, they can figure out (potentially before it tells them to use "sneak") to use whatever keybind they replaced shift with. A player unfamiliar with Minecraft will not know what sneaking is, and thus telling them "shift", the actual key on their keyboard, is far, far more valuable. Telling them they need to sneak is useless information to them.

 

Would like to add that Minecraft keybind text components exist and redirect keybinds to their actual key, so by default "key.sneak" becomes "Left Shift", and if sneak is set to anything else it will display that instead
Maybe it's possible to use that instead of just "Press SHIFT"?

 

Neat, i had thought about that but didn't know it existed. That seems ideal!

 

It's funny because me (and potentially a massive percentage of the Minecraft community) both consciously and subconsciously refer to the action as "shifting"

Like if you're playing with someone and you want them to perform said action I'll usually say "shift" on impulse
From what I've seen online others also use the term crouch but not a whole lot

I heard other games have the crouch/sneak and sprinting keys swapped compared to Minecraft but I'm so accustomed to calling the action shifting that it almost feels surreal

Regardless, if there is a way to set the text in chat according to an individual player's keybinds (as mentioned above via text components) it would be a great change

 

funny enough i think of it as "shifting" when i have had my sneak rebound to ctrl since i started minecraft

 

I think of it as crouching but i have it bound to alt.
