Hello! I recently downloaded runescape because I heard it was a source of inspiration for the developers of Wynncraft. I found out it has a separate version called "runescape oldschool". Maybe a Wynncraft oldschool could be nice as well. While I like the many of the changes in never versions it could be fun trying again how it was when I started playing Wynncraft.

Maybe they got the files for the older versions saved somewhere. The Minecraft developers don't delete all the files for their last version when they make a new one. I don't know if the Wynncraft developers do that.

Agreed. I'd also very much like to return to the version I started in, or at least one of the pre-Gavel updates, just for some nostalgia.

I think the closest we could get to it is a recreation, because the old map—not the world—still exists, and there are videos that can help with referencing the builds. If someone were to do that, then we could have a classic server, but, it’d be a lot of work for something so tedious.

I, though, am all for the concept of having an old Wynn map with some of the new concepts, or even recreating it with commands/using Zentrela’s old code (I believe it’s still purchasable)

I never understood why people are nostalgic for past versions of the game. I’ve been here since 2014, and I can’t think of a single feature that would be better, including the map. I guess Pre-Gavel was “simpler,” but that’s more so it being barebones rather than concise.

Plus I think this feature would do more harm than good by splitting the playerbase and devoting time and resources away from the rest of the game.

It's 100% nostalgia for a simpler time in the game and, I suspect, a time when many of us led happier or easier lives outside of the game as well. It's about reliving childhood or youth, not so much about the game itself being better back then- it most certainly wasn't. I also doubt it would split the playerbase, because even those of us with a lot of nostalgia probably wouldn't play it much. Even if they used the last patch before Gavel, it was still mostly bad quests and grinding. It would be fun to visit and relive a few favorite bits of the game from way back when, but only as a tourist.

I think it would work better as an official map download with some command block support than a full fledged legacy port. If they were to save anything, I would think they would have a few old versions of the map. I doubt they would still have the old pre-Gavel code anyway.

Yeah, they've said they haven't got it anymore. And even if they did, it wouldn't be the same server. Even if they had the map and the item system and the old class abilities, even if they had the terrible old quests and assassin's utterly broken multihit and the lifesteal bug that made archer immortal, and even if they brought back enchantments from powders and feather falling being literally useless, they couldn't bring back the old community, which honestly was a huge part of the package.

As someone who was trying to replicate Wynn since I was 11 years old, I’m surprised the people at WynnCon didn’t download a bit of the map, or haven’t recreated a good portion of it. Having it be some kind of yearly event on the anniversary of Wynn would make way more sense than just having it be a constant legacy server. And, even if the map was made downloadable, I still don’t think it would do the justice of letting it purposefully be made into a once a year, week long event for anyone who wants to relive some memories with their old Wynn friends.

Spoiler: Wynncon, and Wynncraft do have the map. (To be specific, I know how to get the old map, we don't actually have it, and I've told some content team members about it)

The map isn't the part of Wynncraft that's lost to time, it's just most about everything else. I don't exactly know what, if anything Wynncraft specifically has from back then, but I imgaine things like Quest, items and skins would all be rather hard to get a hold of.

As for Wynncon doing it, it's against the rules to have an older version of the map, plus it was never really something we concerned ourselves with, and it would have been a crap ton of work for a team of 5 to 10 (depending on the time and year) to handle.

(Hell, we had such a handful with our initial 2019 plans, which was to add some Quest and mobs to a pre-existing map, that the whole thing fell through and become the same thing as the year before.)

Feel like I should add this for context by the way, I was head builder of Wynncon in 2014 and in *some* of 2019 (Some drama around that, not interested in getting into) I do not speak for the Wynncon team as a whole, but I'm simply giving my perspective as someone on the Wynncon team.

As an avid fan of Wynncon, I love to hear the perspective on those who were on the team. I remember those old maps, and, the dedication you guys had was amazing.

I was just relating to how it’s strange that the main team was so quick to delete an entire world—the old code doesn’t even really need to be sustained—before saving it on a spare USB or something. It strange how they never thought that people would want to see it again, just for a day, no matter how crap it is. And, the potential for a “Wynncon esc” event would’ve been super possible, if they had the foresight to keep it.

I don’t intend to say that any specific group should dedicate their time to remaking the map, but, I’d never be opposed to a rag tag team of players just doing their best to rebuild the old world, just for fun. No intent to ever finish it, no deadlines, just to see how well those who were passionate of an old product can recreate it.

Don't get me wrong, I would be interested as well, (hell I would be interested in pre-gavel being remake entirely and would even be down to head the project if needed, or at least contribute) but it's something I would want permission for and ideally as high up as possible.
Wynncon marketed itself as a community effort and had limited up time, but a classic Wynn so to speak is much closer to theft then a fan project.
Even if we rebuilt all the map by hand, quest, items and so forth, it isn't our intellectual property or something we have any rights to.

Basically, unless Salted or maybe another admin (and even then I would still be skeptical) gave their permission, I would say its sorta an impossibility.

While this sounds interesting out of curiosity, I don't think it would work out.

Let's pretend that a backup of an older version of Wynncraft exists, similar to how Jagex found a backup of an older version of RuneScape. (For additional context, around the time Jagex found the backup, the playerbase of RuneScape had been slowly declining thanks to negative reception to the new version's Evolution of Combat system and microtransactions.)

Now, the following factors are based on the assumption that Wynncraft Classic will run for a long time. First, the Wynncraft team would need the resources to run an additional server. Even if it can only support a small playercount, it will still cost something in the long run. Second, there should be widespread player interest for the long-term, not just a few people wanting to play for several days and then quit. Third, there should be a way for players to monetarily support this server, though this really isn't an issue since Silverbull Shares are analogous to Bonds; note, however, that OSR bonds are separate purchases from RS bonds.

I cannot speak for the CT team. However, as a hobby artist, I can relate to wanting to hide old work, no matter how good it looks to other people. If it's not up to my current standards, then it has to go.

In support of this, I'd like to point out that in Wynncraft's Terms of Service, under the Limitations of Use section, users can't, "modify, copy, prepare derivative works of, decompile, or reverse engineer any materials and software contained on this website or associated services," among other things. Furthermore, under the Intellectual Property section, users are only allowed, "permission to download one copy of the materials for personal, non-commercial transitory use."
