Charon lore rework or expansion

The names of the NPCs were Pottur, Dumble, and Dure. Nothing else about the quest was really a reference to anything.

I completely forgot about those NPCs because they came out of nowhere in the quest and were just used to open the door. I don’t even remember why they wanted to face Garoth.

While I grew up liking Harry Potter, I was a bit disappointed that this quest was just a parody of HP. Hopefully in the future the quest can be remade to be more original and expand on the lore.

I figured Volmor was a 'fun' anagram coincidence

(grookwarts, though. That one always has felt super intrusive to me, even if I actually like (most) of the classes. (For the record the moving stairs joke is funny and should be kept.))

Although I would say that new Charon and new Dullahan falls under the small tiny little issue I have of "If they're no longer heavily based on the mythological figures then why are they still named after the mythological figures"

(I say "heavily" because dullahan's funny beheading is a small nod to the source material)

You don't have to pick the flailing choices

Did the other dialogue choices portray the player as weak and scared? I might need to reassess my wording for future works if that's the case

 

full disclosure i has NO IDEA that dullahan was named after irish folklore.

i would take issue with this but at the same time I missed all of the hp references outside grookwarts

i also made a charon lore rework
just finished it actually
FINALLY it has a decent enough story
to summarize
charon is a soul lich comprised of the risen portal miners souls ordered by a crystal of darkness (a mining family heirloom from the abandoned mines) who forces his way into the underworld (which I am basically considering the realm of the dead, deaths realm feels more like purgatory or limbo)

Charon slaughters the underworld rulers and takes over the realm, all souls in life, good or bad, come to him in death... and he is a sadistic owner... absorbing and collecting their souls for his power and their bodies for his undead army, upon which he released on ancient nemract (without getting into detail, one of the miner's souls managed to break free from him after this attack and cracked the crystal in two, causing him to fall apart unless he is given a steady stream of souls, only possible in the underworld)

So charon has sat for 1000 years, collecting and consuming souls to try to escape this cracking body he is tied to and to stay alive. NO mortals that have perished can escape him. He treats the afterlife like his plaything. When you end up killing him (i have made it so that it makes sense in terms of powerscaling), you literally save ALL mortals from a terrible fate when they die.
