Dungeon Downtime

    So, just did a Dungeon guild crate in a rush. It took me half an hour. And I noticed some irritating things.

    Decrepit Sewers and Infested Pit are old. In fact, they were updated 3 years after the game released, and as far as I'm aware, they've received basically no changes in the 8 years since then. And this shows.

    Infested Pit, for instance, has its first room require 26 spider kills. The problem is that even on-level characters will struggle with this, because the only spiders that count come from the walls - not the eggs - and they take a while to spawn. They will run into this again with the Arachne room, which requires 20 spider kills. Both of these boil down to waiting for enemies to spawn, especially if you're running the Pit for a guild task.

    Decrepit Sewers has less of a problem, but this is still an issue, mainly in the final slay segment, when you have to kill 10 monsters to open the last door. If you're lucky, and endgame, you might be able to get 7 in one go, but only 5 spawn at the start, and it could take quite a bit of sitting around for enough monsters to randomly spawn to complete the objective.

    Meanwhile, Galleon's Graveyard throws waits at you for no real reason, except atmosphere, and I'm told Ice Barrows has serious downtime issues too.

    Although a full Dungeon revamp will probably happen eventually - adding the non-story mode, for instance, and perhaps more variety in Dungeon play - I would like, right now, a simple spot-fix to be applied, where spawn rate are buffed. (Somehow.)

    Either just buff the spawn rate in general, have rooms replace any killed mob with a new one immediately, or just have rooms spawn with all of the mobs you need to kill already there (although this would require nerfing the kill reqs on Infested Pit so as to not swamp you with half a dozen eggs and 30 spiders in the first room).

    bossfights were modified this update, though everything else remains the same
    also 2.0.3 added yahya segment, which has since been removed
    as well as the Aledar + Tasim Bossfight help (which has not since been removed)
    i'm doing a playthrough focusing on dungeon runs, and i did not encounter this issue, nor have I ever.
    Arachne room is annoying, but it's not that long.
    this is from 2.1 or 2.0.something
    it used to be 26 kills in total. i'd argue that this is an improvement
    What is "no real reason"?
    Ice Barrows I agree. (Haven't played since 2.1 came out, but:) Broken Ice Guard Yellow Mob Name room, Follow the Eyes parkour, and the run segment are unnecessary.

    Okay, so, after your first playthrough, I don't think there's really any reason for:
    • A wait for the Megalodon to spawn.
    • An extremely on-rails cutscene for the Piranha to spawn.
    • Another wait for the Piranha to spawn that's basically identical to the Megalodon.

    I neglected to mention the 2.0 changes which did improve the rooms somewhat, because I didn't really think they were that important.
    The kill change to the final DS room isn't actually much of an improvement - you still have to kill 23 mobs, only instead of having the entire run-up to the end door to do so, you have to kill 13 mobs in one small room and then 10 mobs in a tiny room which doesn't spawn enough, while the numerous mobs along the path up are completely irrelevant. It was easier to do the 26 kills in DS, in my opinion.

    Also, the Witherhead cutscene is unskippable, which is another case of unnecessary downtime. If you're speedrunning DS on a max-level character, the cutscene is 2-4x the length of the actual fight since you can oneshot Witherhead from the spawn point with a wand.

    that is skipped in normal mode
    Chill, it's like five seconds
    chill
    you complained about them (rolls eyes loudly)
    after they destroyed the tokens, i'm very glad about the changes. I don't have to worry about distribution of where I kill mobs so that I end up with twenty six.

    i haven't played GG since 2.1 so i know nothing
    all i know is that it i don't remember the cutscene being that long, or frustrating

    He's in the webs outside the dungeon now, isn't he?

    this is not a real downtime problem. you save so much time from doing the dungeon overlevelled who cares about 2 seconds of boss cutscene.

    nope (all dungeon quests no longer locking their dungeons has modified their events slightly)

    though
    arakidicus still talks about you freeing him (but only after the segment where he would have been)
