Horse breeding is probably one of the most obscure features in Wynncraft. It is never explained anywhere in the game, and the only reason a new player would ever find out about it is hearing people talk about it on the forums or stumbling across the "Horses" page on the Wynncraft Wiki. This should not be how new gameplay elements are introduced to players. No new player would ever think that the way to upgrade their horse is putting two together in their personal crafting grid, especially considering that crafting grid is used for nothing else in Wynncraft and even if they did figure this out, they wouldn't understand the chances of doing so.

To fix this, a new "Horse Breeder" NPC should be added to Ternaves next to the Horse Merchant. When right-clicking on this NPC, a new UI would open that includes 2 slots for horses alongside a green checkmark. When hovering over the green checkmark, it would read "Confirm." Below that, another message would read "Put two horses of the same tier together for a chance of getting a better horse." Then, below that, percentages would be listed. "20% chance for a better horse", "50% chance for the same tier horse", and "30% chance for a worse horse." Below these, in red text, it would read "Warning: Horses are consumed by choosing to breed them!"

Upon clicking the button, a small sound would play to confirm your result. On success, a ding noise would play. On failure, the gathering failed sound would play. Upon getting the same tier of horse, a click sound would play.

In order to introduce this to players, in the "Stable Story" quest, a new line should be added to the end of the quest where Enkser mentions this.

[6 / 6] Enkser: One last thing. If you're looking for a better horse, I've got a guy who specializes in horse breeding at my shop here.

Let me know your thoughts. Wynncraft has been doing a lot better introducing all their systems to new players in recent years with the new line of tutorial quests with Tasim and Aledar, but I feel like horse breeding was sort of left behind.

It’s kinda crazy how horse breeding has never been explained in-game. Wynncraft could also use a mount rework.

A horse breeding NPC isn't necessarily needed, but a tutorial is definitely needed. It's completely obscure, since, as you mentioned, nothing in Wynncraft itself introduces the mechanic. If you don't use the wiki, or hear anyone talk about the event, you might go through all of Wynn with a level 10-15 Brown Horse, and get really confused when Dungeons or other players reveal that other types of horses exist.

If a new player wants to spend their life savings on trying to get a better horse, that should be their choice, even if it isn't really recommended.

Powders used to be like this too-- there was never any sort of tutorial quest explaining them a while back, and I just found it odd that a bunch of features like powders and the trade market got whole tutorial quests dedicated to them, but horse breeding got left out. Honestly, every new Wynncraft feature should be explained in-game at least somewhere, players shouldn't be forced to delve into the wiki to try to find answers for anything gameplay-related.

A mount update would also be pretty cool! I feel like with the new mob models coming in 2.1 there is at least a chance of it coming in the future now.

For sure, there just needs to be some sort of explanation about it! I just suggested the NPC since I figured a full menu would be a lot more intuitive to a newer player.

That does beg the question of why should it be based on gambling instead of just a direct cost upgrade. Sure, there’s RNG in other aspects of items like ID rolls and item drops, but at least you have lots of alternatives if you don’t get the ID or item you first wanted. Higher horse tiers, however, are strictly better than lower ones.

I think it doesn't need to be changed to non-gambling. The gambling might not be the best game mechanic, but I think it's not egregiously bad, and it results in a price curve which makes sense - it gets exponentially more expensive to get a higher-grade horse, while the speed improvement is still only 10 ranks (I don't know how horse speed works but I assume every rank has an equal speed value - so rank 2 is 2x rank 1, rank 30 is 30x rank 1).

I don't think so... When I got a low-level Chestnut Horse it could nearly outpaced my fully-level 15 brown horse.

If you put two horses of the same tier together in your inventory's 2x2 crafting grid, there is a 20% chance you can get a better horse, 50% chance you get the same tier of horse, and 30% chance you get a worse horse. Horses are consumed upon breeding them.

I had a dream where I used a dragon mount to travel from Llevigar to Thesead. It was really cool. I also remember that the wings were made out of banner models. (If they were to do that now, it would be a model)
