Game Mechanics Mini Pandemonium + Prequel quest for ???

Ok so. Pandemonium as we all know is a legendary bracelet with the unique Major ID: Madness. Cast a random spell (from your class) every 3 seconds.

I've seen it used in a at least one build (Arcanist/Light bender hybrid), but otherwise its mostly just a funny joke item. Problem with the funny joke item is its locked behind "???", which 1: is extremely long jesus christ, and 2: not single-player compatible (POV: lonely).

So.
As compensation, I propose a new item:
"Commotion". Its Just... just a less intense pandemonium.
It too has a unique Major ID "Craziness".


Rather than cast a random spell every 3 seconds, Craziness casts a random spell every 12 seconds (slightly worse than the original Madness, which was every 10 seconds)

I've removed all of the IDs for 2 reasons: 1, I'm lazy. 2: Just having no ID's is already less than Pandemonium anyway.

You may have noticed that it has a quest requirement. "...?"
Unlike "???", this is a proper quest, with proper NPCs, and the guidebook actually tells you what to do.


Note that Commotion is not actually a quest reward (Though I do kind of wish it was). Its just a required quest.

"...?" is a prequel to "???". Without giving too much away, it gives a small hint about the beginning of "???".
The summary of the quest is just "I've noticed something odd about this meteor... I feel like there's something hidden within..."
-> Don't mention the other 2 meteors, (I'm assuming that the other two meteors look similar to the Red one, otherwise this part kind of doesn't work. If they do not look similar, consider just mentioning the Gerts somehow, Relating to the "Mark of the Meteors", discovery. Something like "Just the other day, I found a Gert near this meteor... That's quite peculiar, Gerts normally don't come out this far." Gerts+Meteor -> Mark of the Meteors -> Wait there's more than just this one meteor, I should go check out the others.)

I'm just now realizing that the "someone lurking" can't be a villager. Though an Elf does make sense since this quest starts near Aldorei.
You could even have some fun with it, have them say "This is all quite Puzzling" hinting to the insane amount of puzzles in "???"

I'm noticing that the Black Spoon, and the Tiny Mushroom are hinted at within "???" itself, but the Odd painting isn't. I have no clue how you'd be able to sneak that in, but I'm sure its possible.
"You know, everything about this is quite odd. I feel like I'm lacking the proper information to paint a larger picture of everything. I'm going to continue studying this Meteor, Thanks for all the assistance you've given me"
"Take these out of consideration. If you discover anything more about this, please let me know."
could be his last lines. idk.

Btw, this is a fetch quest ;p. Medium difficulty because maybe you need to kill some random mob to get an item this stranger requests. Easy difficulty doesn't feel right for a prequel to "???" so Medium it is.


So yeah.
My alternate balancing for Commotion is -600 HP, -450 of every elemental defense, but Craziness casts every 7 seconds instead of every 12.
Do note that because I didn't include the -1200 someodd HP ID for Commotion, it takes away less HP than Pandemonium itself. I guess it's a trade off.

TL:DR
I'm too lazy to do ???, but I still want Pandemonium, so I've come to bargain.

 

That isn't anywhere enough of a reason for us to divert work on making a random new quest, or even start work on one if we were available for it.
If you are, as you say, "too lazy to do ???", then find a different build that doesn't use Pandemonium.

Further, the item you suggest being added is incredibly broken. It's basically the benefits of Pandemonium but with LESS skill point requirements, less negative elemental weakness, AND at a lower level.

a prequel quest to ??? would be nice, but adding one for the sake of a single item replacement seems to not be a good reason?

The one build I saw was lightbender/arcanist
the pandemonium was used to get around Arcane Transfer and because Orphanim costs alot to cast

casting a 1/4 every 12 whole seconds is no where close to fast enough to keep ophanim up nor heal up.
seems fair to me

to be fair I could have just said "give me pandemonium but worse", but i knew that'd just get denied, hence why I added a quest to go with it to provide context to why the item exists in the first place.

 

That doesn't change the potential it has for farming, it just changes the rate.

Ultimately you're asking for a new custom item, a new major id, and a new quest, any of which on their own are hard bargains-- or in the case of quests, something we just dont look to feedback for adding

Alternatively, you could add back the negative Lifesteal that Pandemonium has, but maybe double it. Throw on an extra negative health Regen for good measure.
That way, so long as you're paying attention to the game, you can use healpots/heal spells/etc to stay alive while actively using pandemonium, but if you were to just AFK, the 12 second gap between potential heal spells (and the lack of any healing for any other class........ except shaman), would be plenty of time for mobs - especially mobs close to your level - to delete you. If not, the negative health regen and negative lifesteal does it for you. (POV my shaman dying to a lvl 1 zombie while I was grinding rotten flesh because my loot bonus build has like negative 300 life steal. Im level 103. Talk about a skill issue.)

That way at least you can't AFK all night or something.

Shaman might be able to get around it with Peaceful Effigy + Regen + Seeking Totem...... not sure what to do about that. My guess is that having the lowest base defense, + the negative 150 on all defenses + negative lifesteal and regen, should lend to shaman dying quite fast if not doing anything.

It can be balanced, but there is still the issue that it's a new major ID that isnt really all too different from an existing one, on an item that's made to solve a problem that isn't even really a problem. If you want to use an item that requires a prerequisite, do the prerequisite.

I agree with what deusphage says here and everything; just do the quest, ??? can be irritating, sure, but if there weren't rewards, people might just not do it. If you want the item, do the quest - the party finder can help with getting you a party.

maybe I missed it or something, but was there ever a proper explanation for why Pandemonium's ID was nerfed (from "any spell from all classes" to "any spell from your own class")? Sorry - I know this is off topic - but I saw "pandemonium" in the title and got really excited 'cause I thought it'd be talking about this.

If i wanted to get snarky I could say that "only level 105 weapons should exist, as the prereq to all of the weapons is being lvl 105. if you want to use it just be 105. What you're level 1? just be 105. if you want to use an item do the prereq" but im not going to because then i'd just be an a-hole.

If "???" was a single-person quest that took like 2 hours or something, this post wouldn't exist in the first place as I'd have no qualms with it. 2 hours for funny gimmick item? I guess sure why not. Wish it was shorter, but what am I gonna do. but the way it is now, I can't even start the 2 hours in the first place because I need other people.

But, asking to rework the entire ??? quest to be single-player friendly seems unfaithful to ???. So I went with the other option. "beg for an item that is both single-player friendly, while simultaneously not ruining ??? nor the elusiveness of Pandemonium itself. And then add a quest for context."
Hence why I am here. Pandemonium Mini, Worse than the original, but 100% lonely. Fits me perfectly.

 

Except that isn't all at the comparative argument, because to reach level 105 you need gear. You do not need a "mini pandemonium" to get pandemonium. I don't really understand how you could even draw this comparison.
An actual comparison would be "level 105 weapons exist, the prereq to all level 105 weapons is being lvl 105. if you want to use it just be 105. What you're level 1? level up to 105. if you want to use an item do the prereq"
This argument of is meaningless. You'd be saying that all items should be accessible to all players of all levels.

I don't think it takes too much thought to realize how incredibly broken being able to cast any spell from any archetype at random.

im using a hyperbole as a comparison

"if you want to use the items, just do the prereq", ie if a level 1 wants to use lvl 105 items, get to level 105. Except a level 1 cant get to level 105, as they do not have the items to do so
I do not have the "items" to do ??? -> other players, therefore I can not do the prereq.

I didnt say anything about all items being accessible to all players of all levels

i agree that ??? requiring 4 people sucks ass but you can just use the party finder to find other people to do it with you, it's not as insurmountable as you make it out to be

i'm also assuming you haven't played the quest based on your quest idea including one of the 3 meteors being supposedly grounded somewhere (ingame the meteors are in the sky), the quest probably isnt as long as you think because a lot of the tasks are meant to be split between the people doing the quest
