It's miniscule and if you could just reroll freely on really good items then it would kind of ruin the point of having roll variations in the first place.

Why do we get unidentified boxes then, instead of the unidentified item right then and there?
If this was implemented it would ruin the point of that.

To see the rarity of dropped items. Before this change you had to use WynnExpansion (which became bannable at a point) or pick up every item to check its rarity

Though it's just overcomplication to make a identifier mechanic or whatever. make items drop with random rolls, problem solved. Yeah, maybe nerf the drop rates a bit to account for that, but still. Having lootboxes drop instead of items is a weird idea.

Rolls add diversity to each playthrough. Maybe you got a really godly item and you can use it (or sell it) saving time. If every mythic had exact stats every time then what would the point be? They would all be worth the same. Nerfing drop rate wouldn't change anything.

I meant have all items drop pre-identified. They'd still have random rolls, but there would no longer be a hassle of bringing them to an identifier.
(The idenifiers could stay for re-rolling)

Item Identification also exists as a money sink.

Yup, but it's an awkward mechanic. It should ideally not be there.
If there should be some sort of item related money sink, it's an additional upgrade system to items, like gemstones which exits at different levels and prices.

    what

Man the point of identification is that it is a money sink and also functions as a mystery when you get a new item while leveling or even a mythic and not knowing which one it is. Also, powders do the upgrade stuff.

Maybe it could be done so the player can uncover the mystery when they get to the min level. Anyway, my opinion is item identification is a weird system and doesn't really need to exist. It's way harder than just pressing the "rebalance the whole game around the change" button, but still...

You forgot the part that it is one of the largest money sinks in the game. You can't just replace it.

Now we got to the issue that needs solving. The impact on the economy could be balanced by adjusting all NPC prices, loot, mob drops, it's a lot of work, but IDing is a fundamental mechanic... so it's something to expect.

You can already sell items to the blacksmith for around the same amount as it costs to ID it. This change will make taking every item from a chest the best way to make money, which means players may run into inventory storage problems and will need to travel back to town more frequently. Not to mention the market inflation increasing from the surplus of emeralds.

Wynntils used to show you what it could be which is already pretty cool (idk if it's still a feature today or if it was banned) having to pay for a reroll is a good thing, otherwise there would be no point in having random stats since you could simply reroll until it's perfect

Which is exactly why I never keep any gear I find in the endgame, never picking it up or tossing it to the Blacksmith unidentified.
