Just as there are Secret Discoveries that fill the world with unique and fantastical sights and happenings. What if there are Secret Quests found by interacting with the world and their inhabitants?

Sure, by playing from lvl1 all the way to above lvl100, you've exactly done that: Interacted with the world and their inhabitants. However, every quest in the game can be found using your journal. For the player, there are no chance encounters.

    What if...
You interact with an random NPC and suddenly... got another quest?! You found a secret quest!

Secret Quests can't be found using your journal. I get it, it is extremely similar to Secret Discoveries but as to Secret Discoveries are mostly stuck in the same spot, Secret Quests give more freedom to their Quest-design and fills the world with even more wonder. They aren't a replacement but an addition. What if you clicked on the bride and suddenly a quest appears for you to be the groom.

No warnings, no indications. Will you marry or escape?

This is just an example and those interactions don't have to be secret per se. Imagine having this exact quest in Troms while you're busy with a plethra of other things (Quests, grinding, etc.) but clicked on the bride in the center of Troms because the green overlay above the bride indicates you can? It's a nice change of pace.

The only indication you do have, is the fact that the NPC has a green overlay so the player instinctively knows that the NPC might have some random dialogue. Behold, you're suddenly stuck to a quest, you don't even know existed or how it will pay off. Good luck!

Different NPC's in a lot of different places with no indication any of them will be giving you a quest. Even the most random NPC you are 100% sure off has a quest, might just have some random dialogue. The bar in Nemract might give you clue's of drunkards that might give you something worthwhile. A lot is possible with this idea.

This actually seems pretty cool. There'd need to be some implication of their existence, (like how ??? Tells you it exists by showing up in the quest book) maybe by having an item spawn that gives suggestion to a hidden quest's existence

It might be cool to work existing quests into this as well. Star Thief, for example, would be way cooler if you had no idea it was going to happen.

mabye there could be a billboard at every city/major city that hints at secret quests
like the npc starter for 1k meters under, the billboard could jsut say that someone near some city needs help
obvisouly not all secret quests will be on these billdboards but a good amount of them could be hinted at through these
also mabye these billboards can give hints at secret discoveries/??? for newer players or something but thats for another thread

I personally think it would be way better if quests didn't show up in your quest book until you started them

I really liked the original suggestion but I also like this point here. I think that secret quests should be added but there should be a gamemode that just removes the quest journal as well.

I'm not too sure about other games, but my favourite quest system comes from the ancient predecessor to Diabo, Dungeon Siege 2.

It's quest book sorted by Act - I think there were 6 Acts of the game, each would be an individual quest of the main storyline that took place in a seperate area - like RoL, but the quests spanned the whole game.
Under each Act there was also a tab for sidequests, a tab for quest items, and a tab for books

The sidequests tab had a space for each quest in the area, but no name, location or pointer until you talked to the first person. Then, the slot would be filled, and you could flick through all the instructions up to your current stage.

The tab for quest items kept note of all the random items you had picked up along the way with a brief description - they did not take up any inventory or bank space, they were just listed in the journal.

The tab for books held the titles and contents of all the books you picked up along the way - Our lore in Wynncraft is found in discoveries, but it would be nice to have a place to reflect on what lore you've picked up

I would recommend copying this system for wynncraft. It's intuitive and well thought out. All we need is a main storyline to structure it.

I would actaully prefer most of the non "main story" quests to not be in the quest book and only be logged in the quest book once you have started the quest. This way it would give more of an opportunity to explore the world rather than running from point A to point B for the next quest. The quest book could still tell you how many total quests are left so that you aren't running around looking for non-existent quests.

    Great suggestions!

You guys took an entirely different angle with this. This is an interesting topic we landed on. I agree that the game is very much "Point A -> B" and that was something I wanted to reduce with this suggestion, it just never occured to me that this was an possibility aswel. I do believe for this idea to work, a lot of flaws need to be fixed before it feels worth to try. I mean, would you play an entirely new run, already knowing each and every quest in the game but having to search for them, with no hints? It's not that fun.

    +1

Haha, too late! If you were to make a suggestion on the same topic as mine, would you have done anything different?

Im not that fond of copying another games system. It does sound like a great system and now wish Wynncraft would take some of it in as inspiration.

Just want to point out that all quest locations will be on the wiki within 2 days of the update, so players who don't want to search will still be able to find them

That's fair enough but I think it would add to the immersion - it's just like playing skyrim again or something like that. It could also allow for a bit of personal character development if you wanted to miss out quests that 'your character wouldn't do'. I can't think of anything off the top of my head but the character does do some pretty bad stuff and this would also allow you to skip quests that then also don't show up in the book.

Also you say that it wouldn't be fun to search for quests, but isn't that the point of your suggestion? I'd find it fun - adventuring into a new town and just talking to the residents until boom new quest!

    That's a good point.

As for the 2nd point: Yes, that's my suggestion but it's different. If an update would launch with both our ideas at the same time. Would you rather search for a quest you know you've already done or explore a town in the hopes of finding something new? If a lot of the old stuff only gets more difficult to find without any hints, it's not that fun. If it's new, that's suddenly surprising.

It's a steep slope (since the new stuff becomes old aventually), I know haha
