    Competitive Wynn PvP could be a thing with one simple trick!​

    Now I know this sounds simple. But a 1v1 arena would be super cool.

    Forgetting about the glaring issues with wynn pvp for two seconds (we all know them), an arena that allowed only one duel at a time and forces those two players to stay inside the arena would be nice. A timer for the duel would probably be reasonable to prevent the most obvious softlocks.

    So why is this "super cool"?

    1v1s in games are immediately competitive. Take Maiden & Spell for example, an indie bullet hell 1v1 game which had 37 double-elimination community tourneys in 2021. Check out cool stats here. No matter the game, the genre, or the balance, people will organize tournies and create a playerbase for competitive 1v1s if it's made possible by the game. I personally TO'd half of the major+ tier tournaments and was involved as a commentator in the other half. This is an indie game with single-digit concurrent players, one of many tiny games out there. People will always get involved, no matter how niche, as long at the foundation is there. If a community can form around a game as small as this, you can easily see the potential with wynn pvp.

    Isn't it possible now?

    There's too little infrastructure. Did I say too little? Basically none. Duels announce the winner to the participants only. There's no fixed boundaries, requiring trust especially with the existence of movement spells.

    An arena with basic features (restricted to two players that are trapped inside but can be watched, timer, announce winner to all nearby players) would jumpstart a community that never really got to exist: competitive wynn pvp.

    ok but consider:
    -fix defense
    -cap sp in hunted at 68 in terms of effectiveness
    -make vanish more obvious
    -make heal cumulatively worse the more you cast it while it’s still active
    -give arrow bomb slightly less aoe maybe
    -warrior is balanced
    -make aura faster and uproot longer in pvp
    -cap poison at 10k and thorns/reflection at 25%
    -MAKE HICH PLAYERS NOT LOSE HARDCORE TAG WHEN THEY DIE IN PVP ENCOUNTER HOLY SHIT

    i could go on
    but here are some little things that would make hunted massively more fun

    in the offchance someone who can change them sees this

    honestly after playing hich for nearly 2 years now i can attest to how unfun this is
    no one wants to fight on hich, the gamemode to fight on, because why would they
    the idea is so much fun, but pvp sucks ass, and as a result every hich player doesn’t want to fight or make good builds at a level and instead beat the challenge as fast as possible and then never touch the character again

    because it makes the most sense to do


    and it sucks

    only one hich player has died to a toxo and they were fishing at the most popular molten eel spot during a prof party. pretty much natural selection ngl

    Housing pvp works for everything of this if the participants behave as they're asked to:
    - build walls so players are forced to stay inside, glass roof for players to watch, a 2x2 (looks better than 1x1) hole in the middle where players can enter (and cant accidently leave, oc they could leave with movement spells but they'd have to do it on purpose)
    - since the loser respawns next to the housing balloon, block bank etc only the winner remains in the arena. They can use /kill to leave so the next two people can fight
    - time limit would have to be done manually (kicking players if they both stop playing)
    - Extra point: You can use housing rules for customisable pvp (eg: no poison, only melee and movement spells, flying, infinite sprint, burst spell pvp with infinite mana + infinite hpr, triple hp, no thorns/refl, ...)

    They should really allow us to make permanently open housing islands (maybe after a CT / mod review of the housing island so there arent random ones) so we can actually build always-accessible arenas.

    This could be really great if pvp manages to ever be balanced - I've always felt like proper PvP was something Wynn's endgame needed to keep players interested.

    As cool as this would be in theory, this will simply not work out in Wynncraft. MMORPGs are known for not having the… best PvP, and Wynncraft is no exception. Novalescent came the closest to balancing out PvP, and even then that was a complicated nightmare in trying to balance out gameplay and builds designed with PvE in mind. I haven’t heard of even AAA games like Destiny balancing out PvP with PvE in mind. You need to practically have a separate item system and item team to do it the best.

    Even if we got PvP to be as balanced as possible in terms of stats, the inherent class abilities and very fast paced and spontaneous gameplay of Wynncraft will hold it back. Nobody wants to be killed within 2 seconds when their view was obstructed by a mess of particles.

    I know you’re aware of these issues, but at the same time it’s impossible for me to say yes to this suggestion with these issues in mind.

    All of that would be almost making a new game/mini game, which even if it was technically feasible for Wynncraft, idk the amount of work and maintenance would be worth it. And given how they’ve barely touched the Nether until it was just straight up scrapped, I don’t think the devs will change their tune soon.

    Such issues are unignorable and putting forth effort to make such a system would just be valueless with the flaws in place

    More broken games than wynn pvp (they exist, what a shocker) have competitive scenes btw... And did you stop to think that just maybe, if some kind of community forms, that perhaps there'll be a tiny bit more attention to balancing pvp? Hmmmmmmmmmm

    mineplex champions could be a good example of how the same 5 classes can be balanced around many gamemodes, like capture the flag, team death match, domination, and a fleshed out factions (named Clans) which doubled as pve and pvp (definitely had a shitty meta but that was mineplex's fault). it can be done, its just a matter of trying to form enough traction to warrant putting effort into pvp gamemode(s).

    I’m assuming you mean Maiden and Spells, which I can’t comment on its pvp by itself bc I never played it, but I will say it’s a bit too different to compare to Wynncraft. And no. Because you just need to look at Hunted mode or the Nether to see that the devs practically never touched PvP even when they had their largest communities. And all of this was over years; so what makes you think they’ll change their tune now? Again, not saying PvP is inherently bad; but it is when the devs don’t care about it and they haven’t shown otherwise no matter how large the Nether/Hunted community got over the years.

    Also, why would anyone join an arena 1v1 if there are no rewards like emeralds instead of just doing a duel? Heck, even Hunted mode has more incentive. It won't matter if it allows for a competitive format if it's utterly unfun and broken. And here lies the issue: you're gonna need to balance PvP first, not after the fact to attract anyone. Because everyone knows that you need a dev team that actively cares about the game, and the only way for the dev team to show otherwise at this point after so many years of neglect is to fix PvP beforehand.

    That's why I’m just trying to say you’re gonna need to outline how to fix PvP when it’s so fundamentally broken. Obviously, no suggestion can or should cover ever single detail, and I won’t expect you to go into as much as Nova. But this suggestion should really be more about a PvP revamp than just the idea of 1v1 bc the latter is the no-brainer. Though you can’t have the latter without the former and definitely not after the fact because it'll just end up like the Nether or Hunted mode.

    One simply doesn't try to sell a house that's on fire, and it doesn't help when one says they'll only put it out after it's sold.

    As a dom mage main ever since 2014 I can confirm that sht wasn’t balanced and still ain’t to this date

    Cool to see a reference to champs though, that game was my roots ^.^
