I’m sure most of us have seen the discussion on Champion and its perks. There has been quite a bit of discussion in particular around Champion slots, the perk that adds an extra 5 player slots on each world which only Champion players can access.

    5818D1A4-DD61-4D9B-AEC4-5676D1536052.png

The problem that many people have with this perk is that Champion slots filter down into normal slots when a player leaves the world. What this means is that Champions only have to compete with other Champions for access to a world, effectively blocking anyone else from joining a world once Champion slots start to fill up. This leads to situations where bombs are thrown and many non-Champion players who want access to those bombs simply do not have a chance of getting into the world because Champions instantly fill up all the slots (through the use of bomb bell and /switch), with more Champions filling up any Champion slots that open up when someone leaves.

Some people might say that the real problem is bombs, but that ultimately misses the point of why many people want Champion slots to be changed. Bombs are accessible to anyone who tries to get into a world, no matter what rank you are. At least that’s how it was in 1.19. With the introduction of Champion slots, it’s no longer a level playing field in terms of who can get into a world. Champions have the clear and powerful advantage, a significant change to the 1.19 meta of spam clicking the specific world in the lobby in the hopes of getting in. Inevitably, this has led to situations such as the ones below, where worlds fill up almost entirely with Champions as non-Champions leave.

The best way to change champion slots would be to not have them filter down into normal slots, but instead have them fill up with individuals if the normal player capacity is 40+. I’m not a programmer and I don’t know anything about coding in Minecraft, but it could boil down to something like this:

    - When normal player count <40, do nothing out of the ordinary.
    - When normal player count >40, tag new players (Champions) who join.
    - When tagged player leaves, remove one filled slot from Champion slots.
    - When non-tagged player leaves, remove one filled slot from normal slots.

This would give champions those extra few slots that are promised on the store page, while making sure that everyone is on an equal playing field in terms of getting into bomb worlds, albeit with champions having a slightly easier time of doing so in a way that doesn’t negatively impact others.

Make sure to vote in the poll!

Edit: It was suggested that I go into more depth about the interactions between bomb bell, /switch, and Champion slots, which is probably a good thing to add, so here it is:

Bomb bell gives a notification to every Champion player online who isn't on the world where the bomb was thrown. There is a random delay after a bomb is thrown, but the delay is quite short (0 to 30sec afaik), and especially insignificant since the delay timer starts when the bomb is thrown, not activated. To clarify, when a bomb is used by a player, there is a short animation of a firework star being thrown on the ground with a fuse that burns up and then explodes. This explosion is what activates the bomb and what notifies all the players in the world that a bomb has been thrown. However, the random delay for bomb bell means that Champions on other worlds can know a bomb has been used before the players on that world do. Through the use of /switch Champions can fill up the world extremely quickly, before anyone else even finds out about the bomb (through guild chat, pms, bomb tracker discord, etc.). Letting guildmates or friends know that there are bombs on your world might mean nothing if Champions have already filled up all 45 slots in the world. It is this trifecta of perks (slots, bomb bell, /switch) that gives Champions such an advantage for getting into bomb worlds. Changing Champion slots would still let Champions use bomb bell and /switch to find and go to bomb worlds quickly and easily, but would give other players a chance to get into the world by spam clicking in the lobby. Still very powerful, but not in the toxic way that they are now.

Been a while since I've seen this suggestion (or something addressing the same problem) but I still absolutely agree with it.
Great suggestion other than the fact that this thread isn't posted in the general suggestions part of the forums.

I opted to put it in the Wynncraft section as it’s more of a discussion/information post explaining a problem with a store item, but if the mods deem it more of a suggestion then I have no qualms about it being put in general suggestions.

Edit: it only has a poll because Pepo wanted a thread with a poll to link in the ct chat on discord

Moved to general suggestions (I see it as more of a suggestion because it's actively suggesting things, so... suggestion), of course you can still have your discussion here.

But you do understand that these world(s) (mostly just 1 at a time) you are talking about is mainly profession bombs and not other bombs.
Atleast that is my experience and I feel like this is not a problem.
I have a friend and he doesnt have a rank and he still does professions in a bomb world...
Its not pay to win, its just faster and worth the money.
I think your system does make more sense yes, but please, I dont say you do but, please stop complaining about rank specific perks.

the fact that we havent gotten any word beyond "were collecting data" or whatever kinda speaks volumes. clearly whoever is in charge of this sorta thing doesnt care, if they did they would have mentioned something after 6, approaching 7, months. the only change made to champion iirc is the randomized bomb bell delay, which doesnt even work as intended, since the notification system for bomb bell happens when the bomb is thrown, not when it activates, meaning the notification delay is nullified. (for explanation, when a bomb is thrown, there is a short delay between when its thrown and when it becomes active, the bomb bell notification is for when its thrown, meaning champions know when a bomb drops before people on the world it was dropped on know.)

I wont be spending any more money on this server until this issue with champion slots is resolved, and i know others who feel the same way. this sort of monetization shouldnt be considered acceptable, and the lack of any meaningful response from wynn itself isnt stellar either

Maybe reverse it and make champion-ranked players fill up the exclusive slots first? If the champion slots are filled up they use a normal slot and are moved into a champion slot when one is available

This would benefit non-Champions more than Champions, if I'm thinking it through correctly. The first 5 Champions who join the world would be put into the Champion slots, giving more room for non-Champions. It basically means that once 5 Champions join a world then Champion slots become completely useless, versus in the suggestion in this thread where Champion slots only start being used once player count is greater than 40. Champion slots shouldn't affect non-Champions in any way, positive or negative. It should simply be a little bit of extra room for Champions. Thanks for the feedback, though!

Overall I personally like the idea of the suggestion, but to be more equal is to add onto what may be the downside. It would add more demand on the servers with it having to check more users in general. Compared to current were it only have to check to see if a player joining has a champion rank or not and the server amount. So it could add an increase to the amount of lag doing it due to more checks needed to be done by the servers. Though overall if the servers can handle it without causing more lag I would be for it.

thats their fault, they shouldnt have added such a half-baked idea if they werent prepared for it to not work

the game experience for the vast majority of players shouldnt suffer because they couldnt be bothered to check if their new ideas would actually work

if something like that happens, then champ slots should just be removed.

Hopefully this will cause the admins to break their silence and come out of their high castle. It’s honestly pathetic that they still have yet to make a definitive statement on this. I expected better, but right now, all I am is disappointed in them.

Even if the current system just has to be kept for some reason, it can be made even a little better by bumping a champ back into an open champ slot when a non-champ joins the world at 40/40 normal slots. Would make joining the non-champ slots slightly less painful and would only really block people from joining when the world would be completely full (in both normal and champ slots).

Still though, what's most upsetting is mostly the silence that this issue has received. If they don't care at least they can say they don't, or just say at least something more about what's going to happen with this.
