No no no. You have completely misunderstood what I mean. (Or I have misunderstood what you mean). When I say "mini-map" I mean something in the players off-hand and when I say in-game-map I mean the thing this suggestion is all about. How my in-game-map, IGM, works is by using one texture for each 256x256 area of the game. That texture is then scaled to fit in the correct zoom. So the zoom level of 2 (the one I use in the video while panning around) uses 9 textures to work. The orange and red that indicates playerposition and waypoints in the IGM are retextured items whose models are placed on a layer above the retextured chunks of the map. (The map textures are on a sword, the waypoints and plyerposition are carrots on a stick.) Items for the playerposition and waypoints are actually to the right of the map, in the column, and the textures are just offset. In the IGM I do not use any vanilla minecraft maps (maps as in the item "map").

With the mini-map there would only need to be one zoom level. Lets say that is 256x256. So the map in the offhand would be that size. When you enter the next 256x256 chunk of the map you would get a new map in your off-hand. That way you would only need about 350 maps (to cover all land area of Wynncraft) plus one map for each waypoint. Lets say there are 70 pre-programmed waypoints for everyone to use. That would mean you would only need 420 different maps. Because maps have build-in playertracking that would not be an issue. Maps also have built in waypoint in the form of banners. So each new waypoint created would need only one new map.

Maps being server-side is a huge plus, because it would not be feasable to send retextured items for each waypoint. That would make the pack upwards of 5x as big.

While I do agree that the IGM does not have to be perfectly exact as modded maps are, because that is not feasable, the mini-map (which once again I have not yet written a suggestion about) however could be more exact as vanilla minecraft has the features required for that.

EDIT: You would ofcourse only be able to have one waypoint active at a time.

99% sure there's a misunderstanding here since I don't have a clue why you're talking about the minimap, my only questions are and have been with the map UI itself. If you want my opinion on the minimap, I think it's completely useless since the beacons are far more useful and clutter the screen less, but that's just my opinion. I also happen to think that using maps in any capacity is bad but I've already explained why.

As for the UI, in that case you're basically already doing what I suggested, though I have no idea why you're using 9 items at a time. I get that you want scrolling, but I still don't see that as being a useful feature, I still think it would be better to minimize the number of textures by only showing full areas at once.

The reason is to be able to have very zoomed in areas. What I did not show in the video was that I had prepared zoom level 4, as in only one item that shows an area of 256x256. Because I wanted to be able to have it that zoomed in, all the textures needed to be in that size. So to not have to create new textures I just stiched those 256x256 segments together to create the other zoom levels. I did explore the idea of having only one area show at a time at a set zoom, as in only being able to see the silent expanse when being there, it ultimately didn't work out as problems would occur in how to stich those together and it would be weird if you could see half of another area. So I scrapped that idea. Yes, it would have taken up way less space in the resourcepack but it just didn't feel like a worthy addition to the game.

The general suggestions is a place to suggest things for vianila Wynn, you're better off acting like Wynntils doesn't exist here.
