Inferno for a while has been an underperforming mythic, and the reason that is is because the main merit of fire mythics is how they can take a hit and give one back stronger, something assassin struggles to do with its invisibility and stun effects. A way you can make this better is by adding a new major ID to inferno called "infernal cloak". What this ID would do is make your vanish no longer give you invisibility, but also make your resistance and strength effects not disappear after attacking. This would allow inferno to be the only dagger where mana regen is more usable than mana steal (something made more difficult to do by inferno subtracting mana regen, balancing this already) and allow it to become a more tanky alternative to assassins hit and run playstyle. Thoughts?

Thought up by me and a little tiny wee bit by Varianth.

Needs a significant nerf to Strength effect (80% to about 25-30%), or an outright rework. I'm all for Inferno getting a Major ID, but you might need to think a bit more about how it will impact both gameplay and the item itself, because keeping 80% Strength for 5-6 seconds (which stacks with Courage/Curse) is just asking for it.

Good idea, however just needs a bit of tweaking. Maybe like your next hit within 5 seconds has this effect. Then you don’t have to worry abt getting knocked out of vanish since your next hit is just vanish. This wouldn’t be broken, however it would still give your effect. @Dwicey what do you think

Inferno in general is a failure at intelligent item design and needs a proper rework

It fails at being a compelling fire mythic, having the same relative baseline damage of the other fire mythics but lacking any of the relevant sustain stats you would use a fire mythic as.

It fails at its intended niche(s) since fast melee/rawstack beats poison for worst assassin archetype. In spellsteal, black exists and is an example of how to do spellsteal right, with optimally positive mana, as well as decent damage IDs and the ability to focus on spellcosts or more costly high dex req items.

For its class, highly tanky build design is the least relevant of all 5 classes due to the existence of vanish. Assassin ETW is generally agreed to be the easiest class to play ETW on due to the nature of the class’s toolkit. Investing in high defence detracts from other possible items due to limited sp without providing a desirable buff. The class also doesn’t synergise with endurance like all the other classes do due to stunning spells and vanish too.

As the “tanky” assassin mythic it also somehow manages to be 3rd best for tankiness imo. Nulli provides superior tankiness while achieving better damage, costs and mana. Archangel, while having worse damage has better sp and health sustain too. So what is it’s purpose???

I don’t think slapping a major ID over an otherwise lack lustre item is a good solution

I would expect a strength nerf to compensate for it being permanent, but as it is rn inferno is either in dire need of a big rework or something to at least make it unique. I was hoping this would accomplish the latter, with more thought put into the balance of it and how to make it fit easier into the game world. Though I will admit 25-30% does seem a bit low, as you're losing your escape option and 30% on top of this would just make you a worse version of warrior imo. Def open to more ideas tho, just thought it was a cool idea lol.

Same kinda reply I said to Ambassador, as yeah looking back this would be pretty nutty. Though I think the general idea is still interesting enough to keep. I'd like to hear other ideas if u got any tho!

I agree with most if not all points, but a good few are explained in the post so it does seem like you didn't read the idea. I'm not super sure how to counter the spin stun, but this was a small idea I had to help with the problem of vanish making endu stack very hard to accomplish on assassin. If u got any ideas with how to make the item better tho other than a full rework (which would be preferred but much more work on the servers part.) I'd like to hear ideas, cuz its a really cool item just needs a big nudge in the right direction. (Also with it lacking sustain that is something that would make it at least more desirable, so thats a good point. And Nulli should remain fairly tanky, but it giving more def than inferno is just insane imo.)

I may have gotten lost ranting there sry
but in general, while your suggestion does improve inferno, I feel like it's using a band-aid to fix a broken mug and then acting like it's perfect again. sure, it isn't in pieces but it's leaky and not as nice as a normal mug. Inferno doesn't need to conform to the norms of a fire mythic, so long as it is able to create it's own relevant and interesting identity.

Yeah good point, tho I have no idea where to begin on how to rework it to be something new lol. Building a fire mythic around assassin is tricky due to reasons said in the last few posts. I hope at some point something is done though.

Agreed. I've tried too and what usually happens is either cata 2 electric boogaloo or just generic fire stats, or worst of all, black but mythic
