I'm sure this has been suggested many times over again, but I'm gonna suggest it myself to see what happens. Basically, vanity armor slots are extra slots to the right of your primary armor slots, and all armor put in your vanity slots are displayed on your character, but give no stats. It's exactly how Terraria works.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT ARMOR SKINS, this is different
Also, you should be able to toggle armor (or armor pieces) on and off VIA command. I'd like to adventure in just my skin and have the buffs of my armor still, cause my skin is cool.

    EXAMPLE:
    Screen Shot 2021-02-05 at 9.11.15 PM.png
I'm wearing my build, but I have a purified helmet of the legends in the vanity slot, thus that is what's displayed!

When hovering over the vanity slots, it will tell you via text window that it is a vanity slot and stats will not carry over.

    FAQ:

Q: If you die, can you drop vanity armor?
A: That's up to the devs, personally I think you should NOT drop vanity armor, as it's vanity...

Q: Is this possible with general Minecraft physics?
    A: I have NO IDEA

As much as I love this idea, it would definitely not be possible with "general Minecraft physics" as you say. The only way I see this being possible is to sacrifice yet another 4 inventory slots, which would be too much of a sacrifice for most players.

Perhaps you could use a command like /vanityequip while holding a piece of armor and it would just put that piece on your body and display it, and you can use /vanityremove to take your armor off.

I feel like this would be used like some people do in terraria where they put their actual set on, and have niche items on the vanity. This effectively gives you double armor slots, and you could probably abuse this in some wierd way idk, I do like the idea though

Like how Tomes are handled through the Character Menu, this can totally be handled through the Character Menu as well.

I love this idea and could allow for some neater appearances. +1

Yes, this does make sense. Character Menu is a blessing.

I really like this. I may be one of a few people who don't like the end game bright blue armor that much so this could mean I could wear chainmail - the best looking set.

I could see this being done similarly to how the crate cosmetic gear skins work, where it changes the appearance of the armor piece but not the stats
