Talk to the General
[Ragni General 1/4] You, you look like a tough one, you see, I was on my way to check on the mages at the bridge, but i got attacked by a group of zombies on the way there.
[Ragni General 2/4] One of them hit me pretty hard on the leg, i won't be able to move for a while
[Ragni General 3/4] Can you go check on the mages on the bridge for me? They are not a long way away.
[Ragni General 4/4] Don't worry about me, i'll be fine after a while.

[Mage 1/6] Alright mages! Activate the spell in 3! 2! 1! Fire!
[Mage 2/6] Gah! Nothing ever works! Oh great, now they sent a new Ragni recruit to check on us...
[Mage 3/6] Sorry for my rudeness, my name is Pottur, one of the mages trying to break this unknown seal
[Pottur 4/6] It is supposed to hold the great Garoth, a popular studier of the corruption and it's activities.
[Pottur 5/6] However we have no leads, and we don't know enough about Garoth to figure out how to open this.
[Pottur 6/7] We would go to Elkurn, as that was his supposed home, though we don't have the.. well lets say... the greatest reputation over there.
[Pottur 7/7] Actually, maybe you can be of some use. Can you go to Elkurn and ask around for us? I am sure whatever is under this seal is very expensive, so it could very well be worth your time.

[Viraex 2/4] Fine! Fine! I'll tell you, yes, he lived here in this village for a while, then we went to the Roots of Corruption itself to try and learn more.
[Viraex 3/4] He was mad if you ask me, but if your crazy enough to try and go find him, that was his last seen location...
[Viraex 4/4] Though i would reccomend looking at the old church near the back of elkurn, as that is the oldest building, and probably has something about him inside of it.

As you approach the church, you hear a ghastly cry from the basement...
Go into the basement to find Garoth's Findings

[Journal 1/2] Hmph, the last resort is to go to the roots... If you are reading this i am likely dead, however if you would like to seek me out, i will tuck myself in a cave at [coords]...

As you didn't go to the church, you will not have coordinates to either the roots, or where to find garoth

Nearby are 2 broken wand fragments, gather both of them and they will fuse and activate a spell, opening the door.

I feel it is ok, but the old quest was fine. There are some problems with the original (I thought the ending was... Abrupt), but it doesn't have to be perfect.

 

what needs to change is that abysmal boss fight. Sanctuary is horrible due to the boss being such a dmg god. I died in 3 seconds as mage when i tried it the arena needs to be bigger and he needs to do less dmg.(I was also 10 lvls above the recommended)

 

the old quest was astoundishingly boring to play, and it never had anything memorable, not like this one does either, but i personally think it is better (not saying that just because i made it)

I think the older lore with Garoth can work well with this version of Studying the Corrupt, and also, I think there needs to be a Lost Sanctuary Revamp, since there is nothing very unique about it, and Garoth's fight is more like Corrupted Charon's.

 

i dont think a bigger arena would affect the "region" when there's a GIANT TREE in the middle of a LAKE BRIDGE already xD

 

again, I don't like quests that trigger by walking near something

 

To actually begin the quest you have to talk to him basically, that’s just something to let you know that you are in the quest area

 

no ik, but it still technically updates the quest book and starts it. idk I just dislike having started but unfinished quests in my quest book.

 

true, the old quest did the same thing too...
atleast its in time valley, where you literally only have 2 quests there (including this one)

 

There isn't really a difference, just 2 extra stages.

Nothing amazing, not really worth it.

 

the quest isn't much different, but i always thought of it as a bit odd how the mages assume you know who Garoth is. studying the corrupt felt more like a part 2 than a single-part quest.

once again, these changes aren't much different, but they do make the quest work better. +1

 

Maybe it's just me but I always really liked playing it.
