    Overview

So, a bit of backstory. A little while ago, I found a "broken" key at the auction house. I looked it up on Gamepedia, and apparently, you needed to repair it with runes. Looking it up on the wiki, it was this epic, massive structure that has elevators and all sorts of cool stuff. You get up there and turns out to be just a villager sitting there.

I'm proposing an overhaul to this system to make repairing a key feel more unique while still making it easy and fast.

    Idea

The concept is a magical circle field type of thing (I'm bad at explaining, I'll show what I mean here more in a video soon). Before I present the video, a few reminders:

1: I'm bad at building and command blocks; please don't judge based on the quality of building or aesthetics as this would be changed in an official implementation.

2: You would be able to use multiple keys/runes at the same time; I'm doing it with 1 for the sake of showing off the feature.

3: There wouldn't be a button to activate it, you would just add the runes/keys by right-clicking on the places. There would also be all sorts of cool animations where the runes could rise towards the key and such. As I say, don't judge this based on the preliminary aesthetics as I'm limited in the amount I can do.

4: I used a tripwire hook/soul torch as a key and smooth stone as the runes bc I don't have the texture pack. (I can get this, thanks to @Samsam101 for pointing this out, I'll remember this in the future! I think the video serves its purpose for now.)

    Video:

Please let me know what you think about this idea, I'm very open to changing it/adding suggestions.

    Looks like a great idea!

This could perhaps show sime more lore for the Forgery...

This would be pretty awesome. My suggestion for this is that instead of dropping the item you click it onto its pedestal and the key is lifted into the air as the runes swirl around it.

Just go into your %appdata% minecraft folder and enter the server resource packs file. Copy and paste them all into your main texture pack folder until you get the right one.

    Very good idea.
I'm not sure if there's time to implement it in 1.20, but I hope it ends up in a second update soon.
And, as Samsam said, it would be much better if you clicked it on the pedestal.

so... does this actually make a gameplay change to how many keys/runes you need, or is it purely cosmetic? Because if it is just cosmetic, this does nothing more than slow down the repairing process.

Its purley cosmetic, although it would only take like 5-10 seconds longer then the original process. The goal is to add more lore to the forgery and make it more interesting.

i feel like this would not add much, if anything, to the inexistent lore of the forgery. I only see this as a minor inconvienience to slow the repairing process that could even glitch my items out.

I do not currently see a proper reason for adding this, and thus will not support the suggestion, at least for now.

Looks cool for sure, but I think you hit the nail on the head, though maybe a little too softly. This looks like a major pain in the ass, I don't want to watch an animation every time I need to fix a key.

I do agree the forgery needs some updates, especially in the lore department (like a good explanation for what the corrupted dungeons actually are) and the demo you made is kinda cool, but this doesn't really add anything to the game and I wouldn't really call it a Forgery Revamp.

i agree, and it wouldn't make sense why either, most people don't even make keys, they just wait until dungeon bombs go off, if they do anything with the forgery- they should revamp the look, add some music, change up the dungeons, make obtaining keys easier, or something that will affect gameplay, not some stupid animation that won't help with anything, no lore will be added, nothing special will be there, just something to make getting keys even worse.

This looks absolutely amazing. I love how you actually feel like your repairing a key and not just haggling a big nose boi. However, with placing the runes can u do multiple keys at once? i.e 5 CUR keys. Or is it only one at a time. If its one at a time that will take a lot more time to make the keys. But tbh id rather have fancy ghapix than b fasty boi
    +1 from me

In regards to these, is there anything specific that I could implement into the suggestion?
Adding an alter would probably require some sort of remake of the general terrain, but what do you think would add more lore to it. Perhaps a quest to unlock it that will:
1: Make it so nubes don't get their asses kicked the first time they go there
2: Could add lore to the creation of it and why there's a random floating corrupted black rock in the middle of the realm of light.

Also, I think it would be cool to change the dungeons, but what specifically would you want changed (rebuilding is a good starting point, but finding major major pain point(s) in their design would be more beneficial to the devs.)

I do think that obtaining keys should be more interesting and relate the original dungeons they're meant to be a clone of. No idea how this could be implemented in a way that makes sense in the lore to, so suggestions are welcome.

Note: Please quote the part of the msg you want to respond to so I see it

I don't think there's any specific issue with the suggestion, I just don't like the suggestion it's self. I'm not fundamentally against having a more interesting system added to the forgery, but I think it would need to relate to something like breaking regular keys to turn them into broken corrupt keys by using some new item or soul points or something. I'm sure if you developed the suggestion into something new you would get a lot more support.

I guess the main issue I have is that I have 7 types of different broken keys in my bank right now and I don't want to need to do some ritual to fix them every time I need a couple fixed keys. I've already gone through all the hard work of getting the broken keys and the runes, adding an extra step in that process doesn't add anything meaningful, it just makes an already tedious process more tedious. Your suggestion as it is now is basically a reverse QOL which makes an existing task harder for no good reason.

Also, this would require people to already know the cost of each key which is something I'm not generally a huge fan of.

I originally was thinking of something to do with you taking the key to the bossfight, but scrapped the idea because it felt kinda weird forcing lv 70-+ players to lv 10 dungeons. I do think that "breaking down" the of key could be interesting, although you run into similar problems with ovverleved fighting easy bosses, which I don't think devs will be a fan of. Combining multiple keys would just cost bank space so yea.

Idea tho: what if you summoned a boss with the normal key using said alter, with the current runs, and killed it.

    Pros:
    - Makes a bit more sense lore-wise to "corrupt" the of key
    - Reduces bank space (kinda)
    - Adds a boss battle in a more controlled area

    Cons:
    - Yea, its weird to have a boss before a boss
    - Would make it exponentially easier to get keys

lemme know if you can think of any more
