The code doesn't have to be updated to stop supporting older versions though

But what is gained by doing that? The only reason to stop support for older versions is to improve support for newer versions, but since they can't do that there's literally no reason to. Supporting 1.8+ just takes a single plugin which doesn't cause any problems for any other plugins. By cutting versions you're just screwing people who play on older versions for absolutely no reason.

So having a notification telling you to use 1.12.2 because it is the most stable version is OKAY, but halting support for versions that aren't stable is NOT OKAY? The first option just seems like an unnecessarily long workaround to an issue that's fixed by just not allowing players to join using versions that'll cause their game to break

I think there’s some kind of issue doing that which I’ve heard of and that’s why they haven’t made it only for 1.12.2

I don't really know why you're calling them unstable, if it's because they don't work as well as 1.12.x then anything beyond 1.13.x would be in the same boat...

I'm also not against having a notification, what I am against is dropping support for versions people play on for no reason.

Not true. 1.13.x-1.15.2 works very well compared to 1.9.x-1.11.x, and I am pretty sure 1.9 doesn't have some stuff like the bossbar

So it's missing a few minor features which have no effect on anything except maybe the player, why should that be a reason to call them unstable and to stop supporting them when doing that literally just requires one, very well supported plugin?

Improving the player experience by making them play the most stable versions (and close to latest with 1.15.2) without missing out on any qol features. The effect on the player is the whole point of this thread from what I see. If you wanted to improve the player's experience, I think it would make more sense to force them to use versions which are regarded as more stable and are more recent, rather than just reminding the player that "Hey, this may be a better version to use". It'll have the same effect as the /kill message - practically nothing.

But 1.16 is just as bad as 1.8, you still get all the rendering issues, along with a whole bunch of other issues, in fact, using 1.13+ causes a lot of issues with swimming, especially under transparent blocks like lily pads. My whole point is that is makes no sense to force players to play 1.12.2, just let the use the version they want to, and if they want the best possible experience, they can use 1.12.2. Server development doesn't get made any easier by cutting down the number of supported versions and it just gives players more options.

This still doesn't justify a "please use 1.12.2, as it works best" message which is what I am arguing against. It might as well just not exist since players do not pay attention to chat. I don't mind the way things are currently, what I am saying is that I would prefer cutting supported versions instead of a message because that'll at least have some effect rather than just spam chat slightly.

First, you clearly didn't read what I suggested or how I voted in the poll so I'll repeat it, there's no harm in telling the player before they start the tutorial when they make a new character, it isn't annoying for old players and it might help new players understand why some things don't work properly if they run an into issue. On the other hand, there is harm in forcing players to play in 1.12. Speaking personally, if 1.12.x was the only version, I literally couldn't play Wynn since my drivers on linux don't support anything before 1.13.

Having more versions gives the player choice, which is good, and informing the player before they start playing that 1.12.2 is the optimal version for the best experience is also a good thing. I have absolutely no idea how you could possibly think that giving the player more options, informing the player in some capacity that a specific version is the best, or doing both could be considered to be bad in any way, especially since with my solution, neither would affect you negatively while also affecting some players positively.

Changed it to when making a new character it’s a title message (like when finding a new big discovery).

How about having a message in the lobby (such as what I've demonstrated in the image I've attached)? Unless a new player is being invited by an older player who is telling them exactly what to do, they'll likely look around the lobby a bit before joining a world. Adding it as one of the various help messages is another possibility. I don't think having it after making a new class is a great option as it inconveniences the player right when they're most exciting to play ("I see you've connected to our server, created a class, and prepared to embark on a great journey; now that your fun is just about to begin, get off and relaunch Minecraft in this seemingly random version").
