Two Simple Messages To Help New Players

Recently my friend ended up doing the Misadventure On The Sea quest, and ended up hating it. This was because he is an idiot, and didn't have particles on.

Similarly, many new players have issues with the game as they are on a version that is highly buggy, and unstable for Wynncraft, instead of being on the least buggy and most stable version: 1.12.2.

Any player who comes across these issues might just quit, as they think the game would be poorly designed and not worth their time... Which they are wrong, of course, but they don't know that.

Seing as particles are a large part of the game, as they indicate many things, and that the game not breaking whenever you do anything is also pretty wanted, there should be a solution to this.

The fix I propose for these issues is simple: When a player makes a new character they will get title messages (as in the type of message when finding a new big discovery) saying something along the lines of "please use 1.12.2, as it works best" and "make sure to have particles enabled, as this server uses a lot of them" (of course it wouldn't exactly say that, that is just the rough idea).
Good idea? Yes then cool, no then why, could be changed then how.

absolutely, I've seen more "bug reports" than I can count that are fixed by switching versions
and why on EARTH would you play wynn without particles

But it’s the version that works best. Why would they say to not play in that version? There is a ton of bug reports because people weren’t in 1.12.2

A better solution would be to instead use forced particles where particles are necessary to be seen. These ignore the player's particle settings, although idk if optifine can block them. I might test that

Yes, and it was added in 1.8 too so I'm not sure why they don't use them in small amounts already

 

Even though it has been confirmed to be the best one by practically everyone? Which one do you like more:

1. Players playing on the wrong version and getting a worse experience, until someone has to go to the trouble to tell them to change versions. Bad on both sides, even if it is a more minor inconvinience.

2. Players instantly getting on the correct version and having a better playing experience.

I personally do not see a problem in the server-wide message.

i had a bad comp till not long ago, you can just use optifine with reduced particles, rather than turning them off. works just fine

 

I would rather see a suggestion to stop supporting 1.9-.x-1.11.x and 1.16+ if they lead to undesirable player experiences. Having a recommended version in chat just doesn't feel right, I would rather have a server stop supporting all non-stable versions.

 

Well, that is a fair point, and I do have also thought myself why they just won't drop the support on those versions.

 

Because those older versions (specifically 1.12.x) is what Wynn is actually running on and updating the game at this point is basically the same as remaking it. They can't (for the most part anyways) update their code and plugins to a new version by just replacing "1.8.x" with "1.16.x" as there have been massive changes to how the game fundamentally works.

At this point, I honestly think we're more likely to see Wynncraft 2 then Wynncrafts code being updated to 1.16+

Also, feedback for the OP; It would be cool, but I think it would be annoying to constantly see the notification when I log in, and chat spam is already bad as is. I think the best fix is to make it show before the tutorial starts, that way people read it when they're sitting on a black screen waiting for the quest to actually start, plus you only see it once per character which should be plenty.
