(note: I mean gathering level requirements. not all levels. although that too is possibly something to be considered)

Hey, I've been wanting to suggest something like this for a long time - not because I think it would be a suggestion that ultimately is implemented but more to discuss other ways that professions and profession leveling could be better for the casual player. Currently, new players who ask about professions on the discord or ingame are told "here's your information.... but it's not advised to do professions on a first play through because of how grindy they are."

I think that professions being a viable and easier to access option would be much more beneficial to the game as a whole. Furthermore, the game is constantly trying to get the player into professions at all levels by providing Tool Merchants and lower level trees and crops etc. even in higher level areas like Thesead, Cinfras, etc. Not locking crafting items behind this massive grind will make them much more commonplace at all levels, instead of very early and very late game.

Most of the current profession system would still be in place, and there likely would still need to be something to grind for in terms of leveling, profession parties, et cetera. Not to mention all the people who have high profession levels would be upset, but fuck em. I feel that doing something like this will be much better for the game and shift the mindset of most players regarding professions and the needless grind to utilize the most fun part of professions, crafting recipes to be used in the game world.

Well, how would this work? All requirements for gathering would be removed- something would definitely need to be put in place regarding the gathering levels so Wynncraft players can still experience happy feelings when they get one level closer to the next part in an endless grind, but doing this limits players by their combat level instead of their profession level. Maybe one idea is to make tools untradable to encourage players to do Forgery dungeons with keys or something as well hmm,,,,,,,
Anyways. Crafting levels still need to be there, mainly because without them there is no need for tier 1 materials and it will unbalance the profession scale or something like that. But doing this will encourage players to focus on one or two professions to level up, since they now only need materials and ingredients without the hours long gathering profession grind.

This would also make grinding without bombs feel less pointless and inefficient- the system is very obviously flawed as is but it is much easier to wait for bombs to be thrown and mass craft items instead of feeling like leveling gathering professions without bombs is pointless, because it pretty much is. One hour of professions with bombs is equivalent to about four hours without them. By the time it boils down to crafting, crafting with both bombs is two times more ingredient efficient and four times more material efficient (since speed cuts recipe materials needed in half). Overall this is also extremely dissatisfying.

Anyways, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. please respond smile
    also thanks highmore

I love a good grind. Grinding for high level items is my preferred playstyle. Also, they are possibly adding profession speed/xp ingredients which will reduce the grind by up to 3-4x depending on how you distribute them. I agree that professions need to be made more approachable, but not that they should change the core mechanics of them or make them any less grindy. I know my opinion may be unpopular, but I think changing profs is not the way to go. If the goal is make profs more desirable for newcomers, maybe create a more in-depth tutorial, like they did with powders, or even just do a better job in the tutorial explaining how crafted items can be way better than found items. I've never seen someone ask how powders work, yet there is a whole bunch of powder lore spread throughout Wynn. They could do something like that for ingredients that explain how they work, or how crafting/gathering is a skill they should master.

I would still consider myself a noob at wynncraft, so don't hate me if this info sucks :)

    Hello angry profer here

while I love that you're trying to make professions more accessible to all players, I disagree
I love wasting my time on pointless levels that willl have no affect on my life in any way, so your opinion sucks!
    /s btw
Good suggestion linny but I don't think removing prof levels would solve the problem, idk what would, but just removing levels in its entirity won't work.
I know you say frick em to the angry profers, but since you're a prof mod too you can see that there's a huge playerbase for grinding, and not just the top players.

But it is still grind, which is boring to most players

Like the one quest that is considered "anti teaching"?

Imo tutorial should teach only necessary things. I agree that they should be explained better, perhaps in their own quest. Just not in tutorial.

I respect your hobby of grinding, but please try to look at it as someone who tries to grind as least as possible.

Do we agree that there should be more information about them? And preferably warning about the grind/that they are unecessary too?

Removing gathering level requirements will ruin material prices and cause crafted items to go down in value a ton, so no

First of all, the title is misleading. It should say "Remove Profession Level Restrictions for Gathering" or something along those lines as the current title literally shut me off until I read the thread in it's entirety. It lead to me thinking to remove the professions grind all together (basically delete profs).

What linny is trying to get here is remove the need to gather lv 1-90 materials especially when you are already lv 100+ in combat because you won't ever use these materials, unless you're craftsman of course. I think a solution that linny could have added is for the grind to still be worth it, to add an extremely long length of time to gather when you are not the right gathering level. For example, using a T12 tool on dernic materials but your gathering level is lv 1 should take 100+ hits (1 second per hit) whereas keep the gathering time the same when you are at the right level (4-7 hits at lv 110+). Basically as if you were using a T1 tool on dernic materials.

That suggestion I propose, I could get on board with but it feels funny. I don't know how to describe how I feel other than that.

I'd also wait until gathering xp/speed ingredients come out and see how it works before trying this suggestion.

    no that's what I'm saying

not really. like I said in the OP (which tbh could have used more explaining), crafted items are only really used early and very late game, because there's no reason to craft gear at any other time unless you've already completed the game. removing most of the grind around gathering professions will make them much easier to integrate into the game because there won't be a huge grind you have to get through and will also incentivize newer players to try out recipes and stuff while leveling if they want to. I also think that maybe a better introduction to professions in the tutorial or something is probably a good idea lol

The problem is that doing something like this wouldn't actually solve anything. It would just create a new meta for leveling gathering skills where instead of grinding oak at level 1 you go chop down 1 dernic tree and boom level 30. while it would probably be faster, I'm proposing that you should just be able to farm materials and craft gear

yeah I can agree with this but the point of the thread was for discussion instead of a cemented suggestion on what to do

should it cost ~10le to make a craft at the highest level with tier 3s (assuming you use speed, which itself is quite flawed especially for crafting)
    no, not really imo

if you removed crafting levels this would be a problem. because now all t1s would be useless. but the point of this suggestion is to make crafted items go down in value to the point where anybody can use them, yes

I believe Gathering Levels should be changed somehow, maybe not so much as flat out removed but the result would probably be the same.
I skimmed most of the post so I don't know the entire content of it, but another way to fix this issue of Gathering levels taking too long is increasing the experience gained by it, or creating more profession quests.
Creating different types of resource nodes are also a plausible solution. One type would be a "Rich" node that gives a lot more XP but less chance at higher refined resources, and another could be a "Plentiful" node that has a higher chance at yielding higher grade materials, but gives less XP overall.

Yeah. I don’t really mind how they’re changed.

    Oh god

Yeah, something like this could be fun, although I see it as more of a fun add-on instead of something to actually fix (one of) the problems with professions.

I'd like to see something like this, to make it more approachable. However, I do think that the levels should remain, and rather, you should be able to harvest or craft any level item regardless of your level, but having a high level would give some benefits so that people who enjoy the grind or who are dedicated to doing the professions are still rewarded if they grind, but casual players aren't completely excluded by design.

now do a systematic recreation about this (ok maybe not)

And in my opinion for Linny's post though:
    - Maybe not removing levels entirely, but they should allow under-prof-leveled people to gather ingredients of a higher level, with some XP/yield penalty. For example a woodcutting level 50 player can chop Avo wood for 90% xp penalty and 90% lower chance to get an avo wood (ok idk the xp curve but you get my idea). (and yes it could work similarly like how mob XP works)
    - Make gathering tools base on combat level. I know this would make lower-leveled tools useless, but thats how item works, they added this in 1.18 (while a lot of people are ENDGAMED). If you really want to make lower-leveled tools useful then make tools yield more XP when farming stuff in the level range.
    - Combat XP can be leveled up really fast because you have dungeons and a shit ton of quests, so why not adding quests that are related to professions and gives BOTH combat level and prof levels?
    - Make Pine Trees more denser! The nodes are very scattered, making it quite tiring to level up woodcutting at level 80-90.

That doesn'r really solve it. You can do endgame profs in endgame, but xou are discouraged from it, which is imo bad imo.

Sure, force players to do profs

What? No, quests are optional to begin with (except for some like AJB and AJF) and there is really a lack of quests that are somewhat related to profs

Yes, but if you want to complete all quests, you would force it. Or you would use lv.1-10 profs in endgame quest?
