I think that soul points shouldn't be entirely removed, but they should definitely be reworked/changed. I think that soul points should instead affect the quality (Not amount) of items the player gets. At 15 soul points loot quality is boosted by 120%. For each soul point missing, this goes down by 4%, with a minimum of 60%. This system allows players to experiment and explore much more easily, as well as allowing lootrunners to get better stuff. However, the player is punished with their gear progression in the mid to early game for not being careful. End game players can still fool around and die as much as they want, but when they loot run later they won't be getting better loot.

Dying should have consequences, but shouldn't result in the player losing their gear or softlocking them from progressing in fear of losing their stuff.

You lose all of your souls when you die and if you fail to retrieve at the spot of your demise, they’re gone forever. That’s way, WAY harsher than Wynncraft‘a system. You can literally die not just once, but a couple of times and not lose anything valuable.

That's basically the equivalent of losing your emeralds and being able to go pick them up. I'd take that over "you get 4 deaths and then have to stop playing or you lose your gear". It also is very lenient to players who are having trouble: if you get stuck, spend your souls and you lose nothing on death, except progress. Honestly, the exact opposite of what Wynncraft does. In Dark Souls, dying occasionally is painful, but if you get stuck, it stops being a problem. In Wynncraft, dying occasionally is painless, but getting stuck makes it much, much worse.

This is just false, you can't lose ided armor or weapons until later levels.
And you don't lose unided items unless you're at 2 soul points.
    Here: http://prntscr.com/u1xwqu
I've been aware of this sense the soul point changes near the start of Gavel.
It was stated when they made the change, and I thought it was fairly clear.

    -========-

As for my own opinion on this, I agree the soul point system is badly designed, mostly because it incentives players to not play the game. What I mean by that is when you die, instead of the game making you actively do something to gain back soul points, or something actually fun and active, the game tells you to afk or stop playing.

However, I have to disagree with the thread, because it doesn't offer an alternative death system.
Until you can offer one, I will be voting no.

    And...
    upload_2020-8-18_22-31-43.png

How could we live without our soul point regen items? Obviously we all know that soul point regen is a very important stat, which morph set unfortunately lacks.
No penalty deaths could lead to some very interesting uses for /kill. Like the fastest way to get from the airship in Cinfras after arriving from Detlas to the Cinfras main square would be to /kill instead of walking down (or being a madlad and going around the mountain with movement spells). Done with your lootrun that ends up being a bit far from a major city *cough mod rodosky*? /kill.
Maybe weird things like 20 people coming to detlas to spam /kill over and over again filling chat with "X has perished" if you're into that kind of thing.
Maybe people will make macros to get the highest death count on Wynndata. Maybe get some good memes.

However, do I care about /kill abuse and immersion? No.

I would thoroughly enjoy the removal of soul points because I will finally have a way to instantly teleport from the void to (probably) a city with a bank when mining in that 15 node voidstone cave with 0 penalty and not have to do any parkour on my way back. Finished gathering starfish? /kill to halve the travel time.

    10.1/10 suggestion would recommend
    Yes plz.

True, but it just feels way too anticlimactic to be able to run back over as though nothing happened. Also, what progress do you really lose besides a minute getting back to where you were (if sp were removed)?

I really like this kind of idea, maybe they could add more chill and no-combat activities like seavale reef (more rewarding of course, maybe even with sp)?

And to stop playing after 4 failed attempts isn't? The only time soul points generally come into play is if you're facing a challenge like a boss or dungeon. Dying in a boss fight means you now have to restart the fight however far you were in it, so it's hardly like dying has no consequence. Right now, the punishment for failing is quite literally "I lost, so I quit" which is about as anti-climactic as it gets. It's literally the terrible fantasy novel where the hero loses and fails and dies. It doesn't make you play smarter, it makes you get a level 105 friend to slaughter the boss for you while you do 15% of the damage from a safe corner. It doesn't make you carefully plan your build, it makes you go to the forums get the best meta build you can afford, and destroy the boss. It doesn't make you play more carefully, it makes you overlevel so you can beat the boss when you've outleveled it by 10 levels. It doesn't make you try and learn, it makes you quit.

    /kill doesn't count for stats. :)
    +100% cap :(
Completely fair, I personally don't see the need for any system at all but a proper one would be the obvious best choice.

That comes down to personal opinion. I'm personally against all sorts of carrying and overlevelling to beat bosses you can't with the first attempt. On my mage, it took me two days to defeat Bob at level due to soul points, but it was fine. Finally coming out on top against the powerful enemy felt really great, much better than if I had done it with help or a build someone else made.

For this suggestion, I'm very unsure. I'd like to try playing Wynncraft for a week or two with no soul points and see how it is. Before I would've said that some sort of death penalty system is necessary, but I'm not so sure anymore. There is no need for one with stuff like LI, EO, other dungeons and such where you actually lose progress, but for instant-rematch bosses like Qira it could be a bit unbalanced and anticlimatic as you take practically no harm from losing the battle. For now, this is a +0,75 from me.

please add middle choice tp the poll.

How you giving new player 12 soulpoints, maxed at 20sp (1 for every 10-12 levels) and setting different drop chances for <10, 10-30, 30-50, 50+ ?
You could also refill 1sp when you level up

Honestly, I agree with the removal of soul points personally. I also think it's an outdated system.
Things like Soul Point Regen being on items is stupid, and the fact that having more than 100% doesn't allow you to gain more than 2 is also like big wtf.

A better alternative would be gradual debuffs given if you die constantly, and too quickly. Also yeah, the fact that you can start dropping items after just two deaths is stupid. Also switching skill points should not be soul point based. Sure, there's a quest to access the skill scroll merchant, but being a level 30, finding a new chestplate that you want to use, but needing to adjust your skills while you're at 6 soul points just feels really really bad. Like really bad. Especially as a new player who's trying to explore the game for the first time.

My thoughts, at least. I do agree there should be a penalty for dying a multitude of times, and quickly, but dropping items is not it.

Reminder that skill reset scrolls in Tower of Amnesia are a thing yet nobody remembers they exist (funny because of the place you obtain it at)
Though I agree that having to spend soul points in order to swap builds is pretty annoying

You can. Just the quest changed.
It's just stupid to have soul points connected to skills. I'd rather pay like an le or two to reset skill points than spend 2 soul points or have to take a few minutes of my time to go buy a scroll. Also please don't make skill swapping cost emeralds either-

Is the merchant upstairs? I've never actually went in the upstairs area after 1.19 because the quest always teleports you to another place.

wait so this means i can just stock up on skill scrolls and never have to lose soul points when switching builds

Yea. I have a few from doing Tower of Am a few times. I always preferred using soul points instead of scrolls because I don't die enough for me to care about my soul points. I'm also stingy with my emeralds so I never buy scrolls lol.

While I can see why some people have trouble with this system, I can't see why people don't do a few attempts on a boss until they get to 6SP, wait for a day, and then do more attempts. On my first playthrough, I never tried overleveling, and while it took dozens of attempts to beat bosses, I never leveled until I beat the boss I wanted to beat. Just be patient for heaven's sake, or do something not so dangerous until later. In fact, I think the current system just punishes you for time, you have to wait before trying anything stupid or dangerous. New players aren't losing anything even when their SP drops below 6. They can get stuff back easily, and later on they'll learn the system and learn not to throw themselves into haphazard situations.

Basically, players need to be punished for dying at least somehow. LI I guess would be fine without SP because you lose emeralds, but for Bob and Qira, removal of soul points is far too unbalanced. Maybe make them pay a fee to enter (although that makes no sense) if you want to remove soul points. Players must lose something for dying repeatedly. Dying once is fine. Dying repeatedly means you must be punished, because clearly you aren't paying attention or need to get better at the game (in terms of skill). Maybe tone it down before lv. 40 or so.

Yeah, that sounds easy. How about retrieving your shit while it's in the middle of a boss room? I don't think DS has a bank. Imagine dropping a stx of LE and getting cucked before retrieving it bc it's in the middle of Bob's room and you're doing it at level.

In summary, this thread irritates me because I feel like Wynn is already too lenient with it's challenges, failing the challenges has got to have some punishment.

The point is that you have to walk there to buy scrolls or keep a stock of them if you don't want to spend soul points (which personally isn't a problem but is for many people)
Walking back :) Wynn is extremely casual already.
You just stated the problem, thanks. Mobile game stamina system much?
