Can't Wrap My Head Around Black Spellsteal Please Help

Getting crushed by mummyboard. Any videos showing somebody using spellsteal? I might also just not be used to hitting after using spells resulting in getting hit more than usual but an example or explanation of spell combos you use would be great.

 

What do u mean by "spellsteal"? I assume you mean mana steal, if yes note that it triggers every 4 seconds. If you are using a super slow attack speed weapon it will trigger approx. every 2 hits. With faster attack speed you have to hit a lot of times to trigger it. I'm pretty sure that some spells also trigger mana steal, however I am not entirely sure.

 

Nononono I know the idea behind it. I'm talking about how you play. Do you vanish in, spin attack smoke and vanish out? So you just spell cycle? Idk something is not working out for me.

I don't see why you called it spellsteal but ok. I don't play assassin, but I've heard that the great to deal damage safely is to vanish in, throw smoke bomb and vanish out.

 

It's called spellsteal because you use mana STEAL for Mana sustain, and that's a spell based build. That's just the term used to describe these builds. In my knowledge black builds are actually mainly focused on spin attacks and that's the point of this post. I'm actually the one that made the post about the smoke - bail thing but as far as I know that's not how you play black.

 

Tbh I just vanish hit vanish till I’m back to full mana, then do a devastating spell combo and repeat the vanish hit thing

 

I've never heard anybody call a black build a "spellsteal build." Anyways, for black I would recommend vanishing to proc the damage bonus, run to the boss and do spin ----> smoke ----> spin -----> hit (to hopefully proc mana steal). You can also hit in between the smoke and second spin because the second spin probably won't benefit from the strength (unless you're really good at assassin). You can also start off with a multi, then do a spin on the mob's way up, a second spin on the mobs way down, then melee once the mob is stable on the ground. The second spin should stun the mob so you can safely get the melee hit. In general with assassin you SHOULD be doing a spin as soon as possible to stun the mob. If you see the mob begin doing a spell you should just run away.

 

I feel like my problem is that spin does not blind, and smoke bombs take a split second to actually activate and blind, and so mobs like mummyboard can just hit me and take a chunk of my health, then j have to slowly life steal my way back up

 

Spin stuns, it doesn't blind. If you're playing correctly, then it shouldn't be able to attack. I'm assuming that what's damaging you is its spells, which aren't affected by spin stun. If you see the particles to indicate that the boss is going to do a spell, just vanish and run away.

I've heard the term spell steal black and iirc spell steal is just generally used for mana steal spell based builds. For ranged mobs like mummyboard, I start with a smoke from a distance and strafe so I don't get hit. I then vanish up close and spin melee and then either spin away and reposition or combo with spin multi spin. As for sustainability, on mummyboard specifically i just use chain and group up minions.

 

For reference: Spellsteal = Build that has a superslow attack speed that uses spell damage for the main bulk of damage, while also using manasteal

Basically everyone calls black builds spellsteal builds because post-1.19 with true hybrid becoming truly viable, spellsteal has become the word for previously called hybrid ms-based builds.

It's a nitpick anyway and this whole convo is wack but black is basically the embodiment of spellsteal.
