One of the things that's really annoyed me, and I assume based on the number of posts I've seen about it, many other people, is the fact that when you die in a quest area, you frequently spawn in some god-forsaken random place halfway across the map (looking at you Ternaves). This is more than mildly inconvenient and I've actually made a suggestion related to this before, as have many, many other people.

So, I think that I might have a good and relatively easy to implement solution. In all towns, many quest areas, and a few specific places on the map (for instance Wybel Island) there would be small checkpoints, which, when interacted with, set your spawn point there. Entering a town would automatically set your spawn point to the checkpoint in that town, while all others would have to be manually interacted with. That would allow the player to respawn in a more convenient location when they die, so that I wouldn't have to run from Ragni to Ahmsord when I die in the pirate queen quest because I'm an idiot.

I don't see a whole lot of downsides, unless having to run all the way across the map when you die is an intended feature (in which case it really sucks, please remove it). I don't think this could be abused, as all it really does it provide a slightly more convenient location to respawn in if you die during a quest. Of course, this is my suggestion so clearly if there are downsides, I'm the least likely person to see them, so feedback would be appreciated.

EDIT: @ILikeCola77 suggested a system to add the ability to choose between the nearest town you've unlocked and the place you've set your spawn at, which makes a lot of sense if you're traveling long distances.

I have no idea why this hasn't been in the game for a long time, ngl. It doesn't seem difficult to add at ALL and is super good and easy QoL. anyway, hoping it'll happen one day- might as well support this to maybe increase attention to the annoyingness

This seems good, but what if you die far from your checkpoint? If a town or other major location is closer to your death point, would you still respawn at the checkpoint or in the town?

Unfortunately, you would have to respawn at the last one, in order to prevent random map proximity from messing it all up.

I like this idea, but there should be an option to choose where you want to respawn after dying, in the spawnpoint you set or in the nearest town, because that would be a bit annoying if you set your spawnpoint in ragni and die in sky islands.

Just out of curiosity, how would respawning in the quest for Fate of the Fallen(aka Theorick's Past) work? If you respawn in Nesaak, you have to go all the way to Time Valley. If you teleport to Time Valley, you have to go to Nesaak to get another staff. If you put it in Past Nesaak, the checkpoint might disturb other quest areas outside of the map and cause you to respawn in Past Nesaak.

I still wholeheartly support this. You still are sent to Ternaves when you die in Past Nesaak which is annoying. Also pls give Hive it's own spawn area, I sick of respawning in Eltom and having to trek through the dreaded Canyon of the Lost everytime just to get back to Hive.

i would assume dying in a quest would set you back to the real map checkpoint, as the quest area does not contain the checkpoint

also, great idea, it helps me farm deaths easier. checkpoint in high mob density area and go afk boom easy

I suggested this awhile ago. It’s not like commands or plugins don’t exist for changing your spawn point. And they won’t have to do this for every quest either.
