I know this would take much work, but I always hate doing my thing in towns and having to run from one end of town to the other. Examples: Llevigar, Nesaak, Almuj, Nemract. I will have to go back and forth multiple times because the bank is on the other side of town as the blacksmith in Nesaak, the powder master is far from the bank in Nemract, etc. If it is possible to improve the layout of towns so that the main features are more easily accessible, that would very much improve play.

While I agree with Almuj and Llevigar, Nesaak and Nemract I did not have a problem with. Almuj and Llevigar are the only towns that are like this but I agree that they could use a little remodeling in terms of where the services are.

In Nesaak, the blacksmith is on the complete opposite side of town from the bank. In Nemract, not a real problem, but I always seem to forget that the blacksmith is behind the bank, and also the seasail shop is too far from the bank.

Selchar shares this problem, the bank is on another island. I believe this is also a problem with Thesead, as the bank is on the second level of the town.
EDIT: Also Maex doesn't even have a bank wtf

The other cities are fine, blacksmith is only required with professions, but Nemract was always a town I'd get lost in for a long time.

Oh, I personally despise Thanos and Rodoroc and their banks versus ALL OF THE MERCHANTS.

Right Thanos and Thesead forgot about the placement in those. But Nesakk is quite small and the other side of town takes 5 seconds to run to. I personally don't see the point in going to Maex when Rodoroc is just another 30 seconds away.

I definitely agree with Almuj. It's hard to remember where all the shops are when they're so damn scattered

Almuj isn't even bad. Almost everything is in the bazaar, the bank is massive, but the problem there are the scroll and powder shops. On my first playthrough it took me ages to find them, but they aren't that bad.

Thanos is manageable with a horse.

You can easily get from one side to another in Nesaak with movement spells.

I forgot about Selchar. Also, why is the Almuj Bank and all its emerald merchants made unavailable until you complete A Sandy Scandal, but the liquid merchant is just sitting there in the bazaar?

Yeah I agree with this, especially the scroll shop took me like 10 minutes to find cause I forgot where it was

The first half might be for realism, or for some fun. The second half is unknown.

This change would definitely help players (except maybe the ones who could navigate every single town in their sleep), but I feel it would detract a bit from the realism, especially in the more spacious towns.

But... they're all like within 5 to 30 seconds of each other... it's spread out so a player can experience the town not just run into this part of town, sell, bank, then leave. I'd say at most add signs, but I'm fairly sure those already exist (I've been stomping around Thanos/Molten Heights, so unsure about low level towns rn)

Quest lock, just like anything else, unsure of why an LE is out there, but they tell you lorewise why when going through the quest about how they don't trust people, blah blah blah

But yeah, stuff being spread out is probably a bit on purpose for a tried and true methods in MMOs:

    1. It requires more time to sell/interact = more engagement/play time

    2. It requires the player to explore the city that was built = gives an excuse to show off massive builds and/or make the world seem alive
I love you build team, don't block me to death.

    3. The GM's, item team, build team, and moderation team all had a secret meeting about what forum post might be created then did it to see what would happen.

I realize that towns are built to be experienced, but I don't want to spend 10 minutes lost in the same town looking for something that should be in plain sight. Basically what I'm saying is spread out, not hidden.
