Rework - Major Id: Magnet

    Thank you everyone - We finally got an usable magnet. This thread is closed now.

    As we all know, the major ID magnet is really useless, mostly because of one fact: Your inventory will be full very fast and then you can't drop the items.

    Soo... How can this be solved?
    My idea would be to change it so magnet is only activated while holding shift, with that you could activate it if you ever need it and the other time it's deactivated


    Edit 1 (12th march 2020):
    After some time of discussing, I saw that a few players would like to enable/disable it with a /toggle magnet command. So I thought it might be good to do it like this:

    /toggle magnet
    activates it, doing it a 2nd time changes it to crouching and doing it for a 3rd time disables it.

    Also Magnet needs a pickup radius increase when crouching mode is active so you can collect items in about a 10 block radius.

    yea that would solve the problem but... magnet would be useless?
    To make this idea work magnet would need a bigger range. Right now magnet collects items which are within a radius of a few blocks. If this sneaking feature would be added it would be necessary to give magnet a far bigger "collection radius"

    /toggle magnet instead please
    I use a gravity greed build. Having to shift would be a pain in the ass.

    how so?
    I know I need magnet in combat for my gravity build. alot of people use gravity and don't like the magnet so they could just turn it off. Sounds like a solution to me.

    I mean you just have to do it once before a fight... Having a toggle command would be more friendly to more types of builds.

    Hmm... what about combining those two features?
    Standart-mode: the normal magnet for your builds
    /toggle magnet
    2nd-mode: higher radius, activates only when sneaking

    /toggle magnet seems like an unintuitive pain in the buttocks and the shift method with a very large radius seems fun to me personally but there are probably many players that like the current magnet like.
    How about we make it so that magnet no longer attracts items dropped by players?
    (This is possible to detect and there's already a system for not allowing other players to pick up your stuff immediately.)

    The toggle method allows both ... the "fun method" and the way many players like it now.

    Seeing how 0/22 votes like the way it is now, there should defenitely be a change to 'the way many players like it now'. (In my opinion ofc.)

    The thing is, this being a toggle has three issues in my eyes:
    1. a big percentage of people don't use the magnet major id and therefor it'd look odd in the toggle menu.
    (although /toggle vet is also in there and that applies to an even smaller percentage of people for as far as I know, so it won't be too weird.)

    2. Typing /toggle magnet in chat is slightly more work than just picking it up. (if it'd be a toggle between no magnet at all or magnet as it is now.)
    If it'd be a toggle between magnet as it is now and a version that has more distance but you need to crouch for it, that'd give the crouching version an advantage over the other version which seems weird to me. Since 0/22 poll answerers seem to want magnet to stay the same

    And if the crouching version doesn't get added range (and gravitational speed), it'll not be noticably faster to pick items up than it is to just run around to pick them up.

    3. There are no things that change gameplay in the /toggle menu (and none of the other major ids have something optional about them).

    I agree. It would be more time to type /toggle magnet, and it's a good idea to also add more range + speed.

    Yes, please. I was using an item with Magnet and throwing out items was so annoying. I'd either have to take off the item, or I'd have to drop items and make a break for it with movement spells.

    If you have magnet only activate while holding shift, it becomes useless.

    Honestly I'm a bigger fan of the toggle - there are some semi gameplay-related toggles in there like playerghosts, and having a toggle would make it easier to swap between a loot gravity build and a combat-focused gravity build. Saying that it'd be out of place in the menu is... eh, kinda justified, but at the same time, that really should not be the thing preventing a toggle choice.

    As he says, a crouch-based magnet might as well not exist. The problem with crouching to activate magnet is the same issue as other crouch-based ability changes (like uppercut, multihit, etc) where it just doesn't feel good. In the rare situation where you'd be using gravity for its major id, you don't want to be slowed to a crawl to gather items off the ground.

    I do however agree that it shouldn't pull in items that have been recently dropped by any player (You or someone else) because trying to toss out junk only to have it fly back up to you is a massive pain, regardless of what change goes through.
