Maintain Effects On Logout

Discussion in 'General Suggestions' started by Theeef, Nov 6, 2019.

?

Should this be added?

  1. Yes, it's dumb that you can easily negate effects

  2. No, I like abusing this game mechanic too much.

If you aren't already aware, whenver you log out or do /class any potion effects will be removed, and the duration you're on fire will be continued, so you can just wait for it to end. Additionally when you log back in, your fall speed will be reset, meaning you can completely avoid fall damage this way. I feel that avoiding death via potion effects, fire, and fall damage like this is a bit cheaty and overall just removes a lot of the risk, especially from places like the molten heights.

My solution for this is pretty simple. Whenever you log out or do /class the server will make note of every status effect for your character. Your velocity will be recorded, the time you're meant to be on fire will be noted, your current mana, remaining amount of air, all of your potion effects (and their durations and intensity), and any other status effects will be recorded. Whenever you log back into that class, all of these status effects will be reapplied.

For example, if I logged out on fire, I'll be on fire when I log in. If I had slowness 3 for 10 seconds when I logged out, I'll have slowness 3 for 10 seconds when I log in. If I was falling for hundreds of blocks and logged out as I was about to land, when I log back in I'll be falling just as fast, and will take a bunch of fall damage.

Here's why I think this will benefit the server
    1. Will make healing and potions more valuable since you can't negate effects like fire via /class (I do this one a lot)
    2. Will make Wynn slightly more difficult, as it's currently way too easy. Everyone knows that though, right?
    3. Makes the world seem more continuous. Why would it make sense to lose all effects to begin with?

If you're complaining that this will make Wynn hard, honestly you're doing something wrong here. Wynn is so much of a joke, anyone who has difficulties should seek some guidance. Anyways, that's it. Vote in pool.

I actually didn't think that something like this can be abused. This is more of a bug fix than a suggestion, so ya I'm down.

    And for the record, not everyone sees Wynncraft as easy as you! D;

I like this idea but how do you think the game could actually record some of these values in a developmental sense?

It’s very easy. When you log out of a character trigger a data save. I’m not sure how Wynn stores their days but they most likely do it through a text file called a configuration file or they do it on an online database.

Either way, when you log out all the information will be saved. Information about speed, fire and potions can all be stored as numbers so store these numbers. Then, when a player logs back in set all the values to the numbers stored in the server.

I don’t really consider that part of the main game. When I say Wynn is easy I mean that for the average player who’s main goal is really just get to max level, there’s hardly any struggle. Just grind.

Ah, if you mean it that way I completely agree. When it comes to the endgame content though like LI it can be a bit challenging

I do like this idea, but as someone who frequently likes to run around with high walkspeed, I'd really appreciate another way to not loose a ton of health if I fall in lava or walk into fire on accident. I get that it should do damage, but really it just disincentivizes certain builds in molten heights and requires you to waste some health potion charges.

    3. Just be careful lmao, speed has its costs.
    4. Just find a cauldron with water in it. OR ACTUAL water.

    3. Yes, being careful helps, but "slow down to avoid random fire on the ground" isn't fun
    4. Not that popular in molten heights

If this does happen can we please lower the duration of the slowness and weakness spells? Trying to get around with slowness is fucking hell for three minutes

    1. Good thing potions are super cheap
    2. Or if you have a mage with you
    3. There's not fire on most of the paths as far as I'm aware
    4. There's several in the camps around there.
