"Guards will attack you, no city or town is welcome."

To make this work, all Ally mobs will have a boolean (true/false value) that state whether or not it's a guard. If it is a guard, it will attack players with mobs, and if it isn't, then the AI will treat outlaws just like other players. The guards should also have a smaller range for players, like half or so. This way it's not like outlaws need to be on watch 24/7, they just got to be a bit more careful.

Not only that, but to outlaws the name of the guards will appear as cyan instead of light blue. This will make sure the player realizes they're not friendly.

Guards should have health and damage scaled down to a level that works with mobs and players alike, though the main way you're supposed to avoid them is distractions and not actually killing them.

This way, you could still do quests such as Creeper Infiltration where you need a creeper to follow you, etc, or you could still do dungeons such as Underworld Crypt where you need an AI to fight mobs instead of you.

All quests and dungeons should work the same, can't think of any that can't.

A solution to guards being stacked against mobs causing them to also be stacked on players is to add "Mob Damage" and "Player Damage", where just like elements guards are more strong/weak against and towards different entities.

EDIT: after rethinking this on my part I now think this is a shit suggestion
do with it what you will

EDIT 2: Yall seem to like it so ima edit the thread a bit

EDIT 3: We could also have a thing where players cant attack guards, and will have to run from them to get the guard off of them.

This sounds really cool and I would definetily try it if it was a thing, but there are several quests that require you to enter cities/towns, so this wouldn’t really work.

Good idea actually, the only change I would suggest is that the health and damage of the guards be severely reduced to fit the player's level. Can't have a 40,000 health 1 hit kill iron golem going after new players XD

Sounds good but would it work?
I mean, you'd probably need a whole separate world for that :
If guards attack players, then there will be less guards to protect cities, and that could lead to cities being undefended, which can be annoying at lower level. I'm also not sure how making usually passive mob attack is possible, currently, whenever you go in a quest where friendly mobs suddendly attack you, you change coordinates.
ex : Dwarves and Doguns when you break a statue and the citizens start attacking you

PS: I'm also skipping through the fact that it would make no sense for most quest where you are helping citizen/guards

    you're right

probably wouldnt work and i despise my suggestion because of that,

a solution to the first problem you suggested is to make mobs and players deal different damage %'s, like making guards weak to players as if there was a player element.

You could maybe get the guards to scale with your level

Guards HP and damage scale with you so they do like 5 AD and have 10 HP when you are lvl 5 but at lvl 10 they have 10 AD and 20 HP to match the players increase in damage and health

Sounds like a cool suggestion, but there would be a lot of issues with lore, because a lot of the quests state that you are a ragni guard, and not some outlaw going around helping people.

Also I hope that you realize that in terms of text color codes, cyan does not exist. Maybe you meant blue or dark blue?

Make it so players can’t attack guards. Guards will do 20% of the players max health per hit. Make them slow ish but able to get to the player if they hide. Makes it more a game of cat an mouse. If player leaves line of sight or gets targeted by another guard, the other guard goes back to killing mobs.
