World Show Combat Level By Default. [ Now In Game, But Better.]

I'm entirely unsure of whose idea it was to display total level in chat; it confuses old and new players alike, and actively makes the chat give you LESS information.
Now I understand combat level in chat is a togglable option, but why the hell is it not that by default with tottal level set as a togglable?
I can't find a reason why tottal level is a thing, much less the default.

Not much more needs to be said.

Positives

- Confuses fewer people.
- Gives people more info without needing to actively check.
- Just more convenient.

Full agreement, I can think of absolutely no good reason for total level to be shown.

 

I mean, how does it help you if you know someone nearby has done a lot of professions? You would probably rather know if they can help you with a quest

What does that provide you, and even then seems rather selfish. The mojorty of players prefer the actually useful numbers without needing to change a setting first.

(Keep in mind, this isn't just about how it effects you, but also how it effects new players.
Many of them are getting confused, my girlfriend thought she was level 20 for a good while early on.)

My question is, what use are the bigger numbers besides "They make me feel cool."

 

Yes it's selfish, I figured that would be pretty obvious by my vote on an opinionated poll.

They provide no use other than looking nice and personally I prefer it like that. It's not at all hard to toggle it if you don't like it and if you're too lazy to do that or can't go to detlas and ask someone then that's not exactly my prohlem

Don't ask for and then call people out on their opinions if you're not going to accept them for what they are and the reasoning provided. I'm sure a lot of people have plenty of things better to do than to justify their right to an opinion to you.

The issue is that it does confuse people.
Noobs won't think to ask, they assume thats how it is. Sure old players my realize something is up, but new players will have 0 clue, and 0 way of knowing to even ask people.

I.e. they have no way of knowing that there is an issue, so why would they ask for help with the issue?

 

It really doesn't? And yes you probably could convince people that I'm arguing against myself if you take my words out of context, I could do the same but there's no reason to since it's out of context.

Except that there's really no issue. Newer players would be used to the bigger numbers and it wouldn't be a problem since they don't know anything else. The subject of the problem in this thread is not newer players, it's the older ones that don't want things to change.

 

The problem is they mistake the given information as combat level.

There not just "bigger numbers." They provide less information on the fly, and misinform anyone who doesnt know what they mean.

As said before, my girlfriend thought she was level 20 dispite being level 7, I've also seen a few new youtubers being confused, as they did the Same thing.

And no, I wouldn't need to take you out of context. You said that people could can just do /toggle, but before as a reason for not wanting the change said that you didn't feel like doing /toggle.

Listen, you seem to be mistaken in the idea that this is purely visual, because its not.
Currently someone can have a chat level of 106, and it would tell me nothing.

Are they level 104 with 2 wood cutting?
Are they level 3 with 30 something in 3 different professions?
Are they even close to my level?

The answer to all of those is: no clue.
It's a merged ambugus number that displays no useful information.

Now yes, you can check the thingy thingy to see how the tottal level is divide. That doesn't change the fact that simply having just combat level is more useful, functional, and provides more information then tottal level.

The issue Isn't how it looks, its not about how much more powerful you feel, its not about you feeling anything.
It simply displays more useful information to litteraly everyone on the server, Incoulding you. Maybe you like it because you just like really big numbers, but that is the shittest reason for shitty display design I have ever seen.

If you want to feel strong go ahead, but the rest of the server wants an actually an useful feature. Just do /toggle.

The nagtives with information provided with new players still remains, and it seems you are trying to ignore that.
