I feel like this feature would be the pinnacle of what we call a lazy programmer.

If a problem arises, just write code that can reset the thing so that it maybe wont show up again.

For the state of the matter now, yeah I’d say it’s a hot fix that will solve a lot of people’s problems.

What I’m trying to say is that we shouldn’t have to. I feel like if there’s a problem in the quest system with the code, and it’s possible to fix it, then fix that. Otherwise, 100% add this hot fix.

 

Well I don't particularly like that logic becoue it opposes Ockham's Razor, meaning the simpliest solutions are usually the best ones.

 

I suppose it does go against that but talking about whether or not that applies to all things is an argument in and of itself. Would it be easy to fix like that? Of course. But as a programmer, I would much rather have the code I write be completely free of logic errors than having to write another set of code to compensate for a said logic error. It’s more of a programming standpoint but then again I don’t represent all programmers

 

I understand you point, but I think this would act more as a temporary fix, while the issues are being worked on. It's like having broken eleveator, so you use the stairs while the elevator is getting fixed.

 

Yes, I’m all for that. Sorry I was thinking more in the long run than the short run; this would definitely work as a hotfix, but when it comes to the long run you know where I stand

 

Quick note, under ice should not be resetable because some rewards are given before the quest ends, overall though I support the idea +1

 

It will be a good addition to get rid of a lot of annoying bugs but it won't be good for the server on the overall view.
The problem with reset quests is that even though it will solve some problem but other problems will arrive:
-A player using reset quests instead of using an easier way to fix the bug.
-A player using reset quests but it doesn't work because the bug wasn't a bug.
-A player using reset quests instead of reporting the bug.

Of course, this issues isn't truly bad, but i can guarantee you that someone will come to the forum saying "Fix you're **** instead of making me doing the quest FOUR TIMES!!!!".
Still, i do believe that reset quests can be handy for a lot of times. I would say a system where a specific mod will have the ability to reset quests for players or give them the missing item would be better so that players who do truly need a reset for a quest will have their quest reset.
And to be honest, the only case that i know of that need a reset where was an old member returns and can't do the new quests.

Also, i would recommend you to clean the bumps so it will be easier to read/look.

Well thanks for your opinion. However I will diusagree on some points.

For one I thik this suggestion will never be an actual fix to the problem. You could look at option to reset quests as pain killers. They remove the symptoms but not the caouse. What reset quests would actually do is give people a possibility of fixing their broken quests, while the actual fix for them is being worked on.

For the second point I would like to say that we shouldn't try to please everybody. I know this might seem counter productive since we want to get as much people to the server as possible. But if a player resets the quest four times and comes yelling at the devs on the forums, then it's not the fault of the system, that person would have done this whetever or not option to rest quests was put in place or not, they would have come to the forums to yell and complain anyway just becaouse they're that kind of person. And as much as devs would want for everybody to come and play their game, some people are just not meant to play it.

So as my closing statment I would like to say, that I will modify the thread to look cleaner and change overall thread to add yor suggestion for mods to reset quests for players.

 

The problem here is that the disadvantages of a system like this are bigger than the advantages.
It will help players who stuck on a cutscene or older players who have their quests broken but it won't be good enough, many other players will use this system the wrong way which will really hinder their experience on the game.
Besides, there are already many ways that are easier like kill/switch servers etc.
There are many stupid ways of getting stuck on many parts of quests and you'll need to watch a video or ask on the forums to find that the answer was in front in your face the whole time, if reset quests were to be added players will tend to use it then go to YT or the forums.
It does seem like it's not a big deal but it really is, for players to even get stuck on a quest is annoying enough.
I don't really hate for this system to be added, but i would prefer if it didn't.

I would most likely do it for lore-heavy quests so I can WRAP MA FREAKIN HEAD AROUND IT but hey that's just me.
Also I find use for redoing quests that you really enjoy, either for the puzzles or the environment.

eh, sounds alright I guess, to be honest I haven't really encountered anytimes that I would NEED to reset a quest that's in progress (especially when you're near the END of a quest), but I guess people glitch stuff or whatever

Still, I would LOVE for a way to reset quests altogether!
No re-rewards, No XP regain, just pure enjoyment of the quest with its puzzles, lore, and environment!

I think what they should do with this problem is.... allow mods to perform this command. If the mods have had a routine of questions to the player, and the play has done all of the /kill, changed servers, or etc... I believe then the Mod should have the power to allow them to restart the quest. Just a thought, but it could be a solution.
