I agree with almost all, if not all, of what Killerfish said. I mostly started getting into Wynn when Gavel first came out and since then, I believe I have done everything possible in this server.
At the moment, I am struggling to even open Minecraft because I see no reason to join Wynn and do the things I used to do. I used to love trading, I used to love warring, loved seeing lore get discovered, finding gale's grave and people trying to open it by throwing items, discovery of Ancient Rodoroc, speedrunning to see how fast I can get to lv 100 was one of the things I enjoyed the most back in 2016. But it got to the point where I see no point where everything that I enjoyed started feeling pointless. Back in 2016, making builds was interesting because IDs were new, things were getting discovered. Ways to abuse IDs, ways to kill Bob in 3 seconds. I didn't participate in any wars back in 2016 but at the moment, warring feels more like a chore with no reward. The only reason long wars happen these days is because some other guild decides they are against your guild and try to take all of your territories. Though drama keeps things alive, it started feeling too childish. People are fighting over things that don't really matter at all. It feels like people are fighting for things just for the sake of creating some action, which end up leading to toxic fights. Anyways, trading, back in 2016, there was no way to reroll items, so if you had a badly rolled item, you had to accept it for what it is. Godly items were worth a lot and noone questioned that. Some items were meta but not as used as they are now. People did more experimenting back in 2016 than they do now in my opinion. Looking at class builds section, watching #class_builds, talking to people ingame, it looks like people are using always using the same 40 items. And I think the reason for that is people prefer efficiency more than unique builds. All builds end up being the same, falling into the 3 category and not having anything unique about them, overused spell builds that, at heart, are all the same, hybrid builds that only work with 3-4 weapons, melee builds that rely life steal to survive. (And maybe poison idk). No matter which mythic or legendary you use, no matter what class you play, in total, you have 12 different play styles. That might look like alot at first but after you have played these 12, you have nothing else to do, you basically tried all the builds, there is no reason to change your build anymore. For me that was apocalypse (yes i know, ew). The only reason I prefer apoc over any other build is I really don't enjoy the combat of Wynn and using apoc allows me to go afk mid-war. Enough about how simple builds are, now lets talk endgame. Many people that get to level 100 for the first time, either start a new class or they start loot running to make some money. But if you have played the 12 builds that I previously mentioned, you have no reason to start a new class. Loot running, trading and warring (LI is coming up later) is the endgame of Wynn. Though it sounds like those can be enough to keep players playing, after a while you realize that they all end up being pointless. Loot running and trading, you do that to make money, why make money? to get new/better items for your build, but if you already achieved the dream build you wanted to play, you have no reason to keep loot running or keep trading other than having money to show off. I did a fair bit of trading since 2016, made enough money to call myself rich at one point, but after I decided to take a break back in 2016, I realized that money had no use for me. I only kept trading just so I could flex. And that's when making money became pointless. So it comes to warring. For most people, this is enjoyable, you go around, rule the world wowzers you have territories that grant you nothing in return. I didnt war before my break but I did do 1.2k~ wars since last April. Though it isn't much for some people, it is still a lot of wars. I knew before I started warring that it will grant me nothing in return other than maybe a promotion in the guild, I had nothing else to do so I warred, sometimes for hours, mindlessly, running from territory to territory, trying to keep up with the other guilds. And since September, I can not bring myself to war. It feels like torture. I feel like I'm wasting more time than when I'm just doing literally nothing. Now to LI, some might find it fun to do the same thing over and over again and challenge yourself, but I had to drag myself through LI after my first proper run and I feel no reason to do it again. To that, I'll finish the endgame part by saying Wynn has no proper endgame. Now to lore, yes, Wynn does have a nice lore, not the most unique lore but it is still enjoyable, with its jokes and relations, it is nice to see how the things around the world happened, but after reading it for the first time, there is no reason to go through it again, we don't make any difference in the game world that would require us to read the dialogue just to see what we changed. There are 4 quests that give you the option to choose between rewards (Iron Heart, Aldorei's secret, Underice, Recipe for disaster) but none of them give you anything lore wise that is interesting. We had world interactions such as Gale's Tomb, Ohm's Lab or Ancient Rodoroc but I believe all of those are disbanded now.
    one premature ending incoming
In the end the only reason to keep playing Wynn comes down to socialising. For me, though I met some amazing people outside guilds, it was the people I've met through guilds. Though I don't open Wynncraft as often anymore, I am very happy to be a part of such an amazing guild with such amazing people. Without them, I probably would have quit Wynn again.

Alright... i think we are forgetting the single most important reason why wynncraft will be hecked in the next update.
THEY ARE NERFING CATA WHYYYYYYY WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIT THIS MAKES ME WANNA QUIT THE GAME
Ok seriously tho. I think the biggest problem with next update is they r bringing balance to everything by nerfing all the overpowered things instead of keeping the overpowered things as it is and buffing the underpowered things

Its being fixed to slowly, i honestly would take an update fixing all of KillerFish's complaints to the point where nothing is wrong as a huge update.
Since gavel came out not much has been done to fix all of this.

So definitely play it to check it out. Like i have 2 classes at lvl100 however im too poor to buy a new build so i still cant solo LI. So most of the endgame problems talked about arents a problem for me. (I have been playing since 2014 with sometimes 1 year breaks)

I've suggested PvP before. People would get frustrated and angry so I don't think the community would be too happy with it. I mean, it is an option but people would still get mad after dying. It could just cause a lot of drama......

Having been studying game design for the last 3 years, I can tell you That's not at all true.
More over, its a terrible ascuss, to justify adding something so boring by saying "well everyone else does it" is unbelievably lazy. Its the same logic one would justify adding pay to win with.

Grinding doesn't even need to be boring if its added in interesting and fun ways, it is purely at fualt of the game designers if something isn't enjoyable. Considering a game being enjoyable is the fucking point of a video game, if your not having fun, its failed at its job.

I would enjoy it if you gave a actual reason as to why grinding is needed, and if it is, think of a way to ether make it fun, or remove it from even being needed.
That's the question game designers have to ask, you don't just say its in every thing else so its fine.

    ----

Sorry for my little rant, I just hate seeing this kind of juatifction for shitty game design. Shitty game design isn't "needed because everyone does it" its a issue that should be solved, and that's that.

As an ex-veteran and someone who used to play Wynncraft every day all day non-stop for just about 3 years in a row I gotta say this-
Wynncraft is a great experience, But it is absolutely not something worth spending time on after you've finished all of the good quests, And I have to admit I made a mistake spending such an incredible amount of time on it.
Long story short- A good Minecraft server, A terrible MMORPG.

Its not so much that Wynn is bad, or that its not fun, for what it is its great. But it tends to fail at basic game design. You can tell it was made by people who bearly understand what there doing.

If it went to market as it is now, it would fail. As you said, good mc server, bad mmorpg.

Regarding the criticism of the crafting system, saying that it can be "skipped" or it's "all grinding" doesn't really make sense to me. This is an MMORPG, so technically, everything's skippable. You're not forced to do anything. Stuck on a quest because you can't figure out a puzzle, or it's just too hard? Skip it and come back to it. Don't like discoveries because they're too much of a hassle for not enough of a reward? Don't bother getting all of them. Don't like professions because they're too time consuming? Don't do them and buy crafted items from another player.

You have to grind for your professions because you have to work to get your crafted items. Just looking at the ingredient list on wynndata, there's a lot of good ingredients that would make some crazy combos. I saw a one-star ingredient that gives around 25% spell damage. Also, idk if you can use the same ingredient more than once in a crafting recipe, but if you can, you can get at least 30% walkspeed on a ring. That's insane and you shouldn't be able to just get that by taking a stroll around Ahmsord instead of actually working.

TL:DR: It's fine to not want to do professions, but don't call it "padding" or "unnecessary grinding" because there is a reason why there needs to be grinding for the system besides lengthening the game. I'm not directing this strictly to the OP, it's directed to everyone who feels this way.

I agree that this should be worked for, the question becomes how you can make the grinding enjoyable beyond the reward.

Wynn is not really hated, but it burns out very fast for many veterans

I'm not saying I agree with OP, but I'd say that lack of a clear storyline and the generally obtuse nature of the lore is certainly a valid cause for complaint. You don't need to know the lore to be frustrated with the fact that the lore is vague.

I dislike the immense amount of grinding that the new update brings. I've tried it out on the beta, and it's not fun for me. The only fun things about it is crafting new items to see what you can make, and finding new ingredients, because it's like finding new armour or weapons, but in smaller pieces. I very much dislike the gathering part of the update, because it's very grindy. Grinding in itself isn't a bad thing, as long as it feels like you're making an impact as you do it or if it's fun/engaging while you do it. Gathering really doesn't feel like fun or engaging on the beta, and it's the same reason why I don't like mob grinding either.

My main point for bashing the new update is that while it technically does bring new mechanics/systems just like Gavel did, I just don't like how it feels like there can be no endgoal to engaging it aside from "perfecting your build", which the only purpose with that is basically warring and pvp. I covered the pointlessness of that already, and @dotGenco touched on it as well. With the Gavel update, the new item system was integrated into the gameplay, and you had to go into the new areas of the map to do the new quests and grind if you wanted to level effectively.

Hey, give me some slack! I at least remembered who you were, despite forgetting your name.

Also, I did say I know the basics, I just don't know exact details. I also don't think it's right to just tell people not to critique something unless they're experts about it, because I think everyone is allowed to tell their opinions on things. So thus, I wrote my opinion on it to tell what I think is wrong with it from my perspective.
