I just googled what a Faustian Contract is, and it’s basically a deal with the devil. So why the hell (pun not intended) doesn’t it have -soul point regen? I mean, you’re literally selling your soul to the fucking devil, so why don’t you have any repercussions on your soul point regen?

Also, fix Bismuthinite. Bismuth in the periodic table is element 83, not 82. Buff it a little maybe, but not too much, just so you can bring it up one level.

I mean it's just one level. What's the harm? It's not like there aren't any quests or dungeons around that level range to level up easily from 82 to 83.

And if someone at Lv 82 has a Bismuth and is using it? They would have to buy a new weapon. Even if it's "just" one level don't underestimate how annoying it can be. Changing the level of an item is honestly worse than changing the SP requirements on an item and I never want to do it under any circumstance.

But they would just have to do an average quest to use it again. It’s not like being level 92 and having to grind for hours just to get to the next level. Plus there are plenty of cheap, easy-to acquire alternatives you can use for the less than 15 minutes you’d be working for it. And it’s not like there are hundreds of players that would be affected directly by this.

I don’t see how SP changes are less worse. SP changes are technically permanent, and make certain items unusable with others no matter how much you level. On the flip side, all you need to do in this situation is to level up once, which you were going to do anyway and it’s relatively easy to do so.

If you've played the game for a while and are aware of everything that goes on, then yes. But what about the literally measured 99% of other players? It isn't just the fact that they're suddenly out a weapon, it's also a bit of a kick to the dick to them and could turn them off the game pretty entirely.

Not every player knows about CSST, not every player knows the grind spots, not every player has enough money to buy new items, not every player knows the loot routes, not every player wants to do quests. Every player plays the game differently; just cause the forums has a general loop they use doesn't mean everyone else does, and I'm much more looking at them when I say we're never going to change the level of an item now or in the future.

One doesn't need to be on the forums or be an experienced player to easily level up. I recently leveled up an assassin to level 88, and I leveled up pretty easily with just doing quests, never doing CSST nor a single corrupted dungeon nor grinding at a popular/secret grinding spot. I didn't use any information that wouldn't be easily available to first time players that never used the forums. I never loot ran, and I still got decent items from quests or random mob drops while travelling, and I haven't done the Qira Hive or ??? yet either.

Most quests are easy enough or puzzle-based to the point where you don't need a legendary weapon to beat them with. You could easily get by with a unique weapon. There are so many alternatives, and you're level 82 at this point; it's ok to assume that the player has more than 5 le to afford a weapon or other weapon alternatives in their bank. Yes, every player plays the game differently, but you're making it sound that players don't do anything, which isn't true. The fact that there are multiple, easy ways to level up besides just one way doesn't invalidate my point that it's easy for players to level up.

Lastly, I highly doubt anyone would quit the game over this. You said that this change is worse than changing skill points, but A) You didn't respond to my argument about how skill point changes are permanent and can't be worked around, and B) No one else, both on the forums and people in-game who aren't, has raised an objection about this change, while I can't count the number of times people have raged quit about skill points being changed. It's such as small change, that almost no one would be affected. You have to be a mage, just so happen to be at level 82, be lucky enough to find or buy a Bismuthinite, and then finally have your build fit to even use it. Again, people were going to level up anyway, and the game isn't designed to be unplayable without using a Bismuthinite at level 82 as a mage. It's literally just one level.

Most people probably wouldn't notice, even if they don't a forum account for the reasons listed above. Once this change happens, and level 82 people easily level up, then it's no big deal anymore for anyone.

Now that the change is public ima reply on this thread.
That is not true, we often theme something base on their names, backstories and myths, but even more often players don't really notice it. For example, Petrified Horror and Sleeping Beast is based on the Lovecraftian mythos Azathoth, both items have -walk speed and offers big damage as Azathoth is the sleeping god that is believed to bring about the apocalypse when it wakes. Ring of Fire has earth damage because it is based on the Pacific Ring of Fire which has volcanos and "volcano" is E/F themed. Nephilim in certain biblical translations means "half-angel hybrid", and the item, guess what, is a hybrid item.

We try to theme stuff around their names and lore as often as we can when we have the ideas, but we priorities making a good/interesting item more than blindly making something due to their name but ended up serving no purpose in the game. Faustian Contract didn't have SPR coz SPR serves no real purpose and 8 IDs was already plenty on that particular design, so we prioritised making the actual item more than adding a thematic ID that clogs up the item. Four Gods set for example, the only one that you can realistically come up with ids that match its name is Suzaku which is a variation of phoenix for the east, but was initially restricted by the item tier and elemental type, so again it was made in order to serve its proper purpose in the game before we figured out a way to make it suit the theme. And before that I got months of complains from a certain player without knowing we had a lot of discussions going on in the background and even had a solution prepared for a while. If we really don't care about themes and names we wouldn't bother to fix Suzaku to begin with.

There is only so much we can do, it's easier to come up with 3000 names than coming up with 3000 themes stories lore and what not without making this game a mythology treasure hunt. Even for the items that actually have a backstory theme to it, the majority goes without being noticed, those that get noticed got brushed away, and the remaining ones that missed the mark due to other circumstances got a thread made and we have stuff like "IM doesn't really care about the myths or something related to item names".

    i guess here's a possibility for bismuth:
change current!bismuth's name to "Galena" or sommat and and the lore to boot and then make a new level 83 item called "bismuth" (or don't make it, main point is to change current!bismuth's name)
    why Galena?
galena is a type of lead ore, which would explain the earth poison theme AND solve it being level 82 (lead element 82)
and of course there's already a ring called "lead", and "lead" doesn't sound right for a legendary wand
of course, IT doesn't take suggestions, and bismuth's level didn't mean to refer to elemental number, so there's a good chance this'll be ignored (not to mention the many problems likely present in this suggestion)

but yes there are quite a few problems present in your suggestion. also one thing is that we don't edit levels on items ever unless it is some really serious gameplay issues that we need to change so you guys might as well give up :)
