The Tower of Amnesia involves having the player run around the province of Wynn, acquiring various scrolls to Tinemild, allowing access to the Tower of Amnesia. The entire thing is just a massive fetch quest that can be extremely annoying for new players (as it is a low level quest) that don't know that they have to get so many scrolls and go back and forth from Tinemild to whatever town they go to. Because of this and this, I believe that this quest needs to changed or reworked in some way. My proposed rework goes as follows:

The quest would still have 7 stages and would still require the player to travel around the province but it would be a much more engaging and enjoyable quest than the one we have today. It would require the player to be level 25 and for the quests The Cook's Assistant, Grave Digger, Dwelling Walls, and King's Recruit to be completed.

    Stage 1:
Talk to Tinemild at the entrance of the Tower of Amnesia, close to Elkurn.

Tinemild: The Tower of Amnesia is the place where powerful adventurers go to forget.
Tinemild: What do they want to forget? Who knows. Past errors that they wish to erase from their memory, most likely.
Tinemild: Maybe you are one of them? Maybe you wish to forget some of your past mistakes?
Tinemild: Unfortunately, we cannot let every one in the tower…
Tinemild: Travel through this portal and enter the ravine surrounding the city.
Tinemild: You will find an ancient cave near the eastern exit of the city.
Tinemild: In it, past and present will converge and you will experience a moment from your past.
Tinemild: What you experience may be slightly different from what actually happened.

Tinemild would create a portal transporting the player to Ragni. The player would enter the cave and experience a cut scene in which they see themselves collecting the materials from the Cook's Assistant quest when suddenly, a couple of the animals at Katoa Ranch attack the player, causing the cut scene to end and forcing the player to fight the animals.

Tinemild (after the player defeats the animals): Good job, you did better than I expected.
    Tinemild: Now, head to Detlas.
Tinemild: One of the towers around the city will contain another place like this.
Tinemild: Oh, and yes, I can see, hear, talk, and transport you while you are in a memory.

The player is then teleported back to the Tower of Amnesia.

    Stage 2:
Find the tower near Detlas that Tinemild was talking about.

Upon reaching the top of the tower, the player would experience a memory of speaking with Sayleros from the Grave Digger quest.

Sayleros: You sure look like a strong adventurer who could...help me.
Sayleros: You! You monster! You're the one who killed my brother!
Sayleros: Now it's time for my revenge!

The player would then fight Sayleros.

Tinemild (after beating Sayleros): That took an...unexpected turn.
Tinemild: Anyways, onto your next assignment.
Tinemild: Make your way to Ancient Nemract.
Tinemild: You should find your next assignment in one of the houses there.

    Stage 3:
Enter the house in Ancient Nemract that Tinemild was talking about.

When the player enters the house. they will experience a vision of themselves inside the house from the Dwelling Walls quest. The house begins to shake and then collapse. The player must use their parkour skills to escape.

    Tinemild: Exceptionally done!
Tinemild: Next one up is Selchar.
Tinemild: Oh, you've never been there. Well then, I guess you should still go.
Tinemild: I have a colleague there who should be able to impart some valuable wisdom on you.
    Tinemild: Good luck finding him.

    Stage 4:
    Find Tinemild's colleague

The player finds Tinemild's colleague, Tom.

Tom: Hello there friend! Or rather, stranger. What brings you here so...soon?
Tom: Oh, you're the person Tinemild told me about!
Tom: Well then, let me tell you something.
Tom: To the south of the city of Almuj, you will find an inconspicuous house.
Tom: You can experience memories there.
Tom: But there's something interesting about this place, it takes you to a random memory from anytime and anywhere.
Tom: Here, take this portal to Almuj and see if you can find the house.

    Stage 5:
Find the house to the south of Almuj that Tom was talking about

Again, the player is teleported to a past memory, this time to their first meeting with Ragni's King. The player watches themselves walk into the throne room when suddenly, the blocks of the throne room turn dark (like the colors of the corruption).

Ragni's King: This one brings the corruption with it! KILL THEM!

The player has to fight a few guards until Ragni's King turns into a zombie and fights the player himself.

Ragni's King: YOU ARE BUT A PAWN TO THE CORRUPTION! I WILL END YOU FOR THE SAKE OF WYNN!

When the player defeats the king, more zombies start to spawn.

Tinemild: How did you find this place? There's a reason why it was closed down.
Tinemild: I knew I shouldn't have sent you to Tom!
Tinemild: Here, let me get you back. (Tinemild teleports the player to the Tower)
Tinemild: I have one final challenge for you. It will be your hardest yet.
Tinemild: Run to the town of Lusco, south west to Nessak.
Tinemild: Near it you will find my old home, a run down house barely holding on.
Tinemild: If you can make it there I will grant you access to the Tower of Amnesia.

    Stage 6:
Find Tinemild's old house near the Tower of Ascension.

The player has to run through all the mobs on the way to the house as they are much higher level. Tinemild speaks to the player once they make it there.

Tinemild: This was the start of my journey.
Tinemild: It was a place of pain and suffering.
Tinemild: The monsters would constantly make attempts on my life.
Tinemild: There were always more monsters.
    Tinemild: I wanted to forget.
    Tinemild: And so I did.

Tinemild then teleports the player back to the Tower.

Tinemild: And now, you may access the tower...
Tinemild: Enter it and forget all your pain.

    Stage 7:
    Enter the Tower of Amnesia.

As you enter the tower, you feel your soul becoming as it was when you began your adventure. Whole. Innocent.

If the player speaks with the NPCs around the tower they'll tell the player that they gain soul points while offline at the same rate as if they were online while in the Tower.

Thanks for making it through my wall of text! Any and all suggestions for improvement are very appreciated.

EDIT: Reduced the amount of travel time between a few locations.

The quest just feels all over the place, and everything just happens at random and makes very little sense. The player doesn't even have any past mistakes to begin with, so why would some random stranger make go us to some random location to experience some random warped memory from a previous quest and fight a random NPC? And what about the rewards? Going through 7 stages of that is definitely not worth paying to reset your skill points, which is something you can do already for just 2 soul points at any time...

Besides the lack of focus or purpose, the other big fault is that it still has a ton of backtracking, which is what made the original quest so bad. I had similar suggestion for this quest long about (Forgot where I put it), but what I did was that I got rid of the backtracking and made it focused on the player's past in Fruma. That way the quest's name now had some relevance to it, instead of the quest just being an annoying fetch quest.

I would just start from scratch. I do like the memory cut scenes, but they are mostly pointless and don't really add anything to the game, both gameplay and story-wise, and they certainly don't justify the amount of backtracking.

To your first point, Tinemild sends the player to experience their memories to prove themselves worthy of entering the tower.

Next, the Tower would have a slightly different function in my version. Soul points would regenerate at the same speed as if you were online (20 minutes) while you are offline and in the tower. I know that it's not a big bonus but I wanted to keep the Tower's current theme with the soul points.

I included the backtracking because that is what the original quest is all about, going all around the province to gather the scrolls to prove your dedication to entering the tower. I didn't want to completely change everything about the quest so I tried to improve upon the original idea by making the quest feel more interactive and enjoyable.

The memory cutscenes are there because cutscenes are great. They're not quite necessary but I like them.

I still don’t understand how any of that proves the player is worthy of entering the tower. Nothing is really established, and what happens is just too random. We don’t really learn anything from the cutscenes. Except that Tinemild was attacked by monsters, but that’s not really any revelation given that nearly everyone in the province has been attacked by a monster for the last 1000 years...

That reward seems a bit too OP. Plus ToA’s theme was never about soul points or the soul; it’s literally about memory and amnesia.

But the backtracking is what made the quest so bad. Why are you worrying about significantly changing the quest when you are adding a bunch of cutscenes? Most quests don’t have any at all. Heck, Tinemild could just teleport us to a memory every time instead of us backtracking every time. It’s just useless padding that brings down the entire quest.

The quest shows that the player is able to continue on and be courageous in the face of uncertainty (the player does not know what is going to happen in their memories) and the traveling around the province shows the player's dedication to entering the tower and proving himself to Tinemild. And when I said I wanted to keep the theme of the tower with soul points, I meant that I wanted to keep the reward having to do with soul points as the reward for the quest in it's current iteration has to do with soul points.

I don’t see where you are coming from with the soul points. All you get is some xp and a skill point reset scroll and the ability to purchase more. That’s it. The reward doesn’t add nor subtract from your soul points.

That still doesn’t explain that much though. You could use that reasoning for practically any quest, but that doesn’t mean that all quests make sense or teach you about the lore in some significant way.

There’s a fine line between being “dedicated” and doing something thats repetitive, boring, and unnecessary. Why should someone be dedicated to your quest in the first place if it’s not fun or enjoyable? It’s like saying you shouldn’t install a gate on a mile long wall because people have to show they’re “dedicated” by banging their head against it until it breaks in order to get past it.

The skill reset scrolls allow you to reset your skills without having to use soul points. They allow you to conserve your skill points but spending two soul points is not a big deal so the item is rarely bought. My idea of a reward that still saves/gives you soul points was the idea I came up with. It was the best idea I could think of that was neither completely useless nor completely redundant and op.

Tinemild considers the player going all around the province to complete his task as dedication as it's not something that's too easy to complete. I think because this quest is not necessary (the other quests available will allow you to level up, this quest is completely optional) it can be a bit more...difficult to complete.

The reward is a bit op though.

Then why should I play this quest at all? You can’t say your quest is good or at least better than the status quo if you’re only argument is that it’s optional. You could apply that logic to nearly every quest because every quest is optional, but then does that mean quests shouldn’t be improved? No, of course not. It’s just a poor excuse for not improving a quest. Because I’d rather take the current quest then since I’d only have to make one trip instead of 7.

I don’t think you understood what I meant earlier. Backtracking is just tedious and boring, period. If you can, you should get rid of it as much as possible. It’s just bad game design. Using that the player should be “dedicated” isn’t an excuse because you can apply that logic to any other quest. And as a result, you get a bunch of fetchy and boring quests.

I don't think either of us is ever going to be able to convince the other that they're right. I think we both just have different opinions on what makes a good quest in an MMO. I'll try to make a couple changes soon to make it a bit less tedious than it is currently. Thanks for giving me so much feedback :D

The worst part of Tower of Amnesia is that you have to run all around the map. This quest doesn't really change this aspect. But if the player was teleported near their next location, they would actually enjoy the story than run around the world, likely without speed or a horse.

I've added a couple of teleports to make the quest a little easier to play through. The player will still have to travel but not quite as much.
