I'll try to keep this simple and straightforward. Several unique, rare, and even legendary armor pieces and weapons are effectively out-classed and considered pointless by many players, so I'd like to suggest a way to make excess identifiable equipment indirectly useful.

I'm suggesting a way to take identifiable weapons and armor, break them down into some sort of resource (I'll use "shards" as a stand-in term) that comes in Unique, Rare, Legendary, and Mythic tiers, where each tier of equipment breaks down into the respective tier of shards; Set items could break down into Rare based on having near-identical cost to identify as Rare-tier items.

You can then take these shards and either combine them together to form higher-tier shards (at a hefty price of emeralds, of course) or create a new piece of equipment with the shards. I imagine the shards being combined with a basic common-tier item to set the desired piece of equipment, and then getting a random item of that type, tier, and level (using a cloudy diamond chestplate to create an Adamantine, for example). The shard upgrading process could potentially allow a player to turn several - if not dozens - of legendaries into a single guranteed mythic of some kind, making mythics not entirely luck-based.

If the developers are feeling extra ambitious, perhaps adding a mechanic where you can spend elemental powders to influence the likelihood of randomly generating an equipment piece with the elemental damage/defense/identifications matching the powders. That might require a lot of coordination with the Item Team and a lot of extra work in coding though, so it's just an auxiliary suggestion.

Anyways, this is just a thought for giving more use to common items (with no identifications), identifiable items that aren't wanted/needed by a player, your extra stacks of LE, and the bank space that could be used for better things than the dozens of legendaries you'll realistically probably never get around to selling.

wait no that last one is just me

Bad items already have a use. Feed them to the item buyer... have you ever considered this?

Yes, I have, and it seems like a bit of a waste at times. I wanted to suggest something else to give them a different, more interesting use.
