    Hey, I shared this idea once before. It was part of a province idea, which, as I was warned, ended up being very unpopular. The province of Verda is dead.... but the features themselves are still usable for the existing provinces.

    Spirit Animals
    What are spirit animals? Spirit animals are like a special pet that follows you around. There are 5 different spirit animals, and they will each give a buff to a single stat, but also have a secondary effect. Choose wisely; once you select your spirit animal, you cannot change it.

    Types of Spirit Animals
    There are 5 spirit animals:
    The Essence of Strength in Animal Form

    The Spirit Wolf provides Earth defense, melee damage, and Strength. Below are the base stats.
    • ✤Earth Defense +10 Max 20
    • Melee Damage +15 Max 30
    • ✤Strength +5 Max 10
    The Essence of Defense in Animal Form

    The Spirit Sheep provides Fire defense, extra health, and Defense. Below are the base stats.
    • ✹Fire Defense +10 Max 20
    • Max Health +150 Max 300
    • ✹Defense +5 Max 10
    The Essence of Intelligence in Animal Form

    The Spirit Pig provides Water defense, extra spell damage, and Intelligence. Below are the base stats.

    • ❉Water Defense +10 Max 20
    • Spell Damage +5% Max 10%
    • ❉Intelligence +5 Max 10
    The Essence of Dexterity in Animal Form

    The Spirit Ocelot provides Thunder defense, extra melee damage, and Dexterity. Below are the base stats.

    • ✦ Thunder Defense +10 Max 20
    • Melee Damage +5% Max 10%
    • ✦ Dexterity +5 Max 10
    The Essence of Agility in Animal Form

    The Spirit Rabbit provides Air defense, extra speed, and Agility. Below are the base stats .

    • ❋ Air Defense +10 Max 20
    • Speed +5% Max 10%
    • ❋ Agility +5 Max 10

    When do players receive their spirit animal?
    Players will do the quest that unlocks the spirit animal really late in the game. The quest will be an endgame one, within the last 15 levels available.

    Leveling Spirit Animals
    Spirit animals just wouldn't be a good embodiment of the soul if they didn't grow and improve. Spirit Animals improve with every passing day. As spirit animals improve, their supportive powers increase as well. Improvement patterns can be found in the spoiler below.
    As spirit animals level up, they help you by giving you more power. The upgrades are as follows:
    • Elemental Defense is increased by 1 per level
    • Stats (Defense, strength, etc.) increase by 1 every second level
    • Secondary bonuses (health, melee, etc.) Increase by 10% every level. (example: +10% per level when the maximum level is 10 means 100% + (10% x level) == 100% + 100%. Secondary effects at level 10 are double the effects of level 1.

    Spirit animals gain experience to level up. Every 10 minutes of playtime adds one experience point to the Spirit Animal's experience, and every dawn adds another 2. In addition, soul points can be spent to add 5 experience to the Spirit Animal each. A maximum of 2 soul points can be spent per day for this purpose. The experience required to level up for each level is listed below (along with some information on how long it will take).
    Level 0 -> 1: 100 exp
    Level 1 -> 2: 110 exp
    Level 2 -> 3: 120 exp
    Level 3 -> 4: 130 exp
    Level 4 -> 5: 140 exp
    Level 5 -> 6: 150 exp
    Level 6 -> 7: 160 exp
    Level 7 -> 8: 170 exp
    Level 8 -> 9: 180 exp
    Level 9 -> 10: 190 exp

    Total: 1450 exp
    Minecraft days go in 20 minute cycles. 2 exp per 20 minutes is 1 every 10 minutes, plus the passive 1 per 10 minutes. That's 1 every 5 minutes. In total, it will take 7250 minutes of playtime to reach level 10. That's just over 120 hours of playtime. (5 days). Of course, this can be sped up if you trade soul points for exp. Should it take longer? These aren't like horses; they shouldn't be easy to level up. Once they reach max level, there's no system to reset them. With how strong the effects are, and with how passive the leveling system is, it should take a lot of time.
    (NOTE: Experience is only gained based on playtime after getting the spirit animal and only for the spirit animal that belongs to the playthrough; the spirit animal will not gain experience from playtime on one of your other classes. They also won't gain experience from dawns when the player is offline.)

    Guys, I looked at a list of the 20 smartest animals. Pigs were the second smartest animal, beating even dogs and cats.
    And I'm sure some lore would help this fit in, but lore is that thing that you just don't touch.

    Complicate for whom, Gabe Crocoduck? For players? This is simple for players - get a spirit animal simply by beating a quest, your stats get stronger. Literally play the game and the spirit animals get stronger passively. No extra effort required; they are a perk with a cosmetic attached. If you mean programming.... well, who are you to tell me what's too complicated for the devs?

    Pretty interesting idea, I like it. I feel like it may need a few tweaks to make it a bit more interactive with the player. Just existing to level it up seems a bit dull.

    I could try having it gain experience every time the player gains experience, as the spirit animal is supposed to be connected to the user's soul (at least in lore). But balancing that for all levels between 101 and the level you get it at could be hard.
